Currently self-employed, I primarily still work as a development consultant for Capita Software Services, but on a contract basis. I work from home in the USA and “telecommute” to the UK each day. Main achievements:Developed a “Risk Manager” web application to manage the workflow of insurance documents in the London insurance market using an intranet system. This replaced the need for documents to be physically stored, at high cost, in filing cabinets, and then carried by hand around the London insurance market. Developed for one insurance client and then resold to a number of other firms in the same market.

One of the most experienced employees within the company. Led a team of 4 developers, managing their development skills and time to best deliver the large amount of ongoing projects. Also undertook development and analysis at a senior level for high-profile clients, and provided development training to both colleagues and clients.Main achievements:Designed & delivered a series of training courses for colleagues and clients covering development with the core company product and covering all the main aspects of web application development (ASP, JavaScript, IIS & SQL). Organized the assignment of projects to offshore developers working as part of an outsourcing development company, to cover peak periods of system development and remove the basic development tasks from onshore developers leaving them free to work on “complex” systems.

A senior member of the Zurich Municipal web development team involved with all aspects of web site development, maintenance, and advising/mentoring junior team members, with special responsibility for web site security and authentication issues. Main achievements:Delivery, as part of a team, of a new secure section of the Zurich Municipal web site, which enabled customers to view mainframe claims data via the Internet (using MQ series (IBM) messaging to gather data). Within a SSL environment, worked with PassGo WEBThority for user authentication.Main developer for the brochure-ware web site of a new Zurich brand, Zurich Public Private Solutions. Worked the project all the way through from organizing domain-name registration, to search-engine promotion and site traffic analysis.

Audited small to medium sized firms on-site, travelling the length of the UK in the process. Most office time was spent administrating Windows 95/NT network systems, including specialist accounting software.
