Reducing Climate Risk Through Circular Product DesignThe University Of Manchester - Tyndall Centre For Climate Change Research Jan 2016 - Dec 2016Manchester, United KingdomIt was a genuine privilege to work at this famous institute on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Here I conducted research funded by a major UK retailer to develop a tool (The BECE Framework) to analyse business and product sustainability performance and identify innovation opportunities and implementation pathways. Implementation of BECE was also applied with a business in the IT sector - a contract I sourced, and whom I served through funding I secured. The work resulted in two very highly cited papers in the field of circular economy. Experience included:- Extensive analysis of literature to identify the core elements of circular product and service design.- Development and application of an approach to sustainable product and service design, integrating aspects of strategic visioning, impact mapping, and eco-design into a single framework. - Grant writing to obtain funding to pilot this tool with a business who I recruited onto project. -

Sustainable Projects ResearcherBusiness In The Community Apr 2010 - Sep 2010This wasn't employment per se, but rather my Masters degree placement. It was a dream project... developing a Vision of Sustainability for the Football League Trust, in partnership with Business in the Community and the Environment Agency. This was a great job where I got to work with football clubs from up and down the country and through which my work ultimately informed on the UK 2012 World Cup bid. Huge thanks to Gudrun Cartwright for her support here. A truly inspiring person to work with. -
Carbon AnalystNational Union Of Students (Uk) Oct 2009 - May 2010This was a fantastic experience I had compiling carbon footprint assessments for businesses across Greater Manchester, and submitting recommendation reports to them based on on-site visits. I did such a good job I was hired for the role of checking the work of the rest of the team and eventually was invited to work at NUS HQ to do some data analysis. That particular job was supposed to take two weeks... However, I was able to get everything done in just under one day via the Microsoft Excel skills I had learned in my previous career in pensions administration. -
Carbon Auditor And Csr OfficerGroundwork Cheshire Trust Jun 2009 - Jul 2009After leaving the world of pensions administration, I had a couple of months until my masters degree was to start. Luckily I had been an eager beaver and had emailed anyone who would (or wouldn't) listen to say I was interested in an internship experience in the world of environmental management. The awesome Adam Hebden was kind enough to give me a chance and I was soon working in my first position in environmental management: performing carbon accounting; going on site visits; writing sustainability policies and reports and making recommendations on how emissions could be reduced. I learned a lot in this role and it is the reason why I still look to support those entering the jobs market in any way I can. -
Hr Analyst / Pension And Rewards AdministratorSodexo Aug 2007 - Jun 2009After returning from travelling in Australia and Japan I returned to my old career in pensions administration. Again I was able to excel in this role due to my ability to work quickly and process large volumes of data accurately. I honed my Microsoft Excel skills in this role, learning to run my first complicated programming commands quickly, saving us many days of data processing time compared to previous approaches. Eventually, I was nominated for company administrator of the year and would regularly report to the company's Senior Management Team in London. -
Pensions AdministratorMercer Human Resource Consulting Jun 2005 - Nov 2006This role saw me start as a data administrator and slowly work my way to being in charge of pensions administration for accounts worth several millions of pounds. I was able to shine here due to my ability to hyperfocus and process large volumes of data quickly and accurately.
