Senior Mudlogger
Trainee and logger since April 2005 as employee for Geoservices (Australia). Client was Contact Energy, who drilled geothermal wells at Wairakei, Tauhara and Ohaaki-Broadlands in New Zealand. Started work on 15th November, 2011 for new client: Mighty River Power on the Orakei Korako and Ngatamariki geothermal fields also in NZ.Since February 2012, I worked for Senex Energy in South Australia and Ahava Energy in the Officer Basin (South Australia). Information sought as follows:Geological data, obtained by physical examination of drilled cuttings.Surface drilling data (including mechanical, hydraulic, and engineering parameters), to help maintain safety, balance formation fluid pressures and optimize the drilling process control and drilling costs. Downhole drilling data, we integrate parameters from other sources, such as logging while drilling or electric logs which will complement the information which we are providing. For example: Total depth, ROP, WOH, RPM, Torque, Lag time, Temp In/Out, Mud Volumes.Key Achievements:• Nearly ten years of experience interacting with major energy clients in private sector.• Resolved many technical issues to satisfaction of clients.
Retailer
Established with wife a Main Street personalized gift and souvenir retail business.
Lecturer
Class numbers of 3rd, 4th and 5th year engineering students ranged from 10-20. One student came first in the Philippine Institute of Engineers National Board Examination in soil mechanics.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
I was awarded a Fellowship from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and with the guidance of professor Kusakabe embarked on a research programme in collaboration with a large research team on stable isotope geochemistry of volcanic gases. Part of this work confirmed a new hydrological component in geothermal systems, and established that gases discharging from fumeroles located at the summit of dormant volcanoes in central Japan originate directly from the mantle.
Administration Officer
The Geothermal Institute, University of Auckland. Mostly did administration and accounting duties. Tutored in geothermal mineralogy.
Exploration Geologist
Explored for gold in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Directed 4 field staff in stream sediment sampling for gold at a very remote site. Undertook identification and mapping of field samples for later analysis. Fieldwork took five weeks.
Project Geologist
Responsible for management of 6 senior geologists on well-site drilling rigs. Responsible for recovery of cutting and core samples, storage and identification of minerals in cuttings and cores. I later studied for PhD on the detailed geological and geothermal history of this site. This is the largest water-dominated reservoir in the world. More than fifty 3-km deep wells have been drilled. Evaluated suitability for 5 power station sites (approx. 30x20m), and examined lithologies and defects in walls and floor of a 4m deep excavation for first 112MW-power station foundation, prepared site report and recommendations.
Geologist
Worked in the Groundwater Section of Ministry of Works and Development (now Opus) analysing water well logs, subterranean aquifer flows; and discovered transmissivity of aquifers decreased with depth and laterally inland. The analysis was carried out over two six-month periods.
Geologist
Analysed groundwater levels of the Lower Waitaki river and wrote report.
Exploration Geologist
Northern Territory, Australia. Member of a 6 person team. Activities included planting stakes on a wide grid and describing cuttings returned from auger and percussion holes. - six months
