About Graeme Mcgregor (He/Him)

Innovative campaigner and project manager with 19 years experience in large and mid-sized non-governmental organisations, where I have delivered successful campaigns, projects and communications on a range of human rights issues.I am currently responsible for content production - for fundraising and advocacy purposes - at Depaul UK, a national youth homelessness charity and service provider.I derive a great deal of satisfaction from meeting and interviewing the young people in our services, exploring their personalities, strengths and experiences, before using audience insight to share them with Depaul UK's various supporters and potential supporters in the most effective ways possible.Prior to joining Depaul UK, I spent 10 months developing my illustration work. While this is no longer my professional focus, I am regularly commissioned to produce work and have applied my experience of Adobe Photoshop to producing content for Depaul UK.Before this, I spent nine months as Campaigns Manager for Unicef UK, developing and delivering national campaigns on the issue of unaccompanied refugee children, through which I was instrumental in securing the safe transfer of child refugees from the "Jungle" refugee settlement in Calais to the UK, prior to its demolition. From early 2013 to late 2015, I led the refugee rights campaigning of Amnesty International Australia. I organised and contributed to research into conditions for refugees at the Manus Island detention facility in Papua New Guinea. This resulted in the publication of the first independent, public report into human rights abuses at the facility, which received international media coverage and formed the basis for three years of ground-breaking campaigning on Australia's abusive refugee detention policies, which I led and for which I acted as primary spokesperson.Recently, to develop my content production skills, I undertook an intensive three day training course in low-budget documentary film-making, learning to use DSLR cameras and equipment to shoot high-quality footage and learning to use the industry-standard Adobe Premier Pro editing software to create short films. I have since applied these new skills to making short films about the lives of young homeless people for Depaul UK.I have also undertaken extensive training throughout my career in various campaigns and advocacy practices. This includes training from Common Cause and ASO Communications, respectively, to develop my understanding of public values research and framing for campaign communication strategies and content.
