My first love was mathematics, modeling and solving real-world problems. I was eventually drawn to cannabis for its healing properties as I sought help with a chronic condition, Wilson’s disease. I seek to bring data science and machine learning methods into the cannabis space, grounded in math and physics but with a passion for the plant. I wish to advance cannabis research, cultivation, and regulation through data and evidence-backed approaches.I’m currently a SIPS professional masters student at Cornell University focusing on Cannabis Science. Advised by Dr. Heather Grab and in partnership with Mariposa Technologies, I am investigating non-invasive detection of nutrient deficiency in live hemp! I’ve come back to higher education with a goal to use data science and modeling skills to help solve analytical problems within the cannabis space. Previous work experience in geospatial satellite imaging, specialties in deep learning and computer vision. Research AssistantUniversity Of Maryland May 2017 - May 2018College Park, MarylandI worked as a researcher under the advisement of Dr. Gilad Kusne (NIST) and Dr. Hector Corrada Bravo (University of Maryland). My projects focused on Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) and Gaussian Processes. My work on NMF pertained to situations with hyperspectral data where basis vectors are shifted in position when present within the input dataset. This reseach paper, of which I am a coauthor, was recently accepted by NPJ Computational Materials. My research with Gaussian Processes concerned developing a novel algorithmic framework to efficiently couple functional optimization and global classification tasks in a complex materials domain using dual Gaussian Process models. This was designed to be able to not only uncover the optimal parameters (temperature, pressure, etc) of a material with respect to a certain property for applications, but also its phase structure for theoretical materials science advancement. Codes were written in both MATLAB and Python.
