An accomplished board level executive with a successful track record of technical and commercial leadership and the delivery of outstanding results spanning 30 years in the mobile communications and financial sectors. Highly experienced in large scale technology enabled business transformations, mergers & acquisitions, technology innovation, outsourcing, operations and partnering/partner management. A big picture/systems level thinker who is able to analyse and make sense of highly complex (and often siloed/disparate) business/operating model challenges and provide a clear, effective communication of strategic direction.Led a 3 year, £2Bn technology enabled business wide transformation at Three UK. This industry leading initiative pioneered the world's first end-to-end Telco Cloud Core Network, delivered a massively scalable, distributed and low cost data centre/backhaul network, built a high capacity 4G and new 5G Radio Access Network, developed a full greenfield IT capability and embraced the adoption of automation, devops and cloud. Led the Three UK technical workstream and joint consolidation team for the proposed acquisition of O2 (Telefonica UK). Built and presented comprehensive and compelling technical proposals, including technical rationale, efficiencies, network improvements, consumer benefits and delivery roadmap, to the UK regulator, EC competition authority, shareholders, potential investors and many other interested parties in support of the acquisition. The European Court of Justice has recently (May 2020) annulled the 2016 decision by the EC competition authority to block the deal stating that they had made "several errors of law and of assessment". A key executive responsible for planning and delivering a dramatic turn-around in the performance of the 3UK business from the beginning of 2007 through to the end of 2011. Successes include a circa £1Bn improvement in financial performance, becoming EBIT positive and being voted Best Network for Mobile Broadband (YouGov).Initiated, played a key role in commercial negotiations and then a lead role in delivering the worlds largest and most comprehensive radio network infrastructure consolidation and radio network share. The objective of the Three UK deal with T-Mobile UK, signed in December 2007, was to build the best 3G network in the UK and deliver savings of £2Bn. The massively complex consolidation programme was completed in 2010 and nearly doubled the 3UK site count whilst realising a significantly reduced network operating cost.
