As a Sales Associate I had many duties but my two primary concerns were always safety and customer service. I constantly ensured that all safety protocols were being followed and provided excellent customer service. I believe that customer service is the most important part of any business. Ensuring that all customers are promptly and courteously dealt with ensures that they will return and become repeat customers which is markedly cheaper than acquiring new customers. And at a time where every individual opinion can be heard via social media, flawless customer service is more important than ever. Often, I would be asked to step in and explain a policy (or a relevant piece of legislation) to a confused or angry customer who had overwhelmed one of my coworkers. I found that with proper communication, clear reasoning and a high level of respect most conflicts can be solved in a way that both parties find acceptable. Beyond job-site safety and customer service I was trusted with general upkeep and maintenance, counting the cash register and doing regular safe drops. Due to my constant safe-drops, when I was eventually robbed the thief got less than sixty dollars from my cash register. At Shell I also gained a reputation as an excellent trainer of new staff and was often given the task of training associates including those who were hired for other stores. The majority of my night shifts I was the only employee on the premises and therefore was responsible for virtually everything.I took it upon myself to write down all verbal orders in a communication book after the part time staff pointed out that people were occasionally neglecting to provide them with update information.

As Shift Supervisor I was responsible for general store upkeep and all aspects of the cash register. My primary job duty was to ensure that the various associates on site were completing their duties in a way which minimized the amount of work that the morning crew had to do to open the store. Due to the high turnover rate of the food industry, I often worked more than 40 hours a week despite being a full time student. The same turnover rate caused me to train many different employees over three years for all of the Quiznos in town. Working with so many different people gave me valuable experience in cooperating with people who have distinct or eccentric personalities.I also rewrote and updated the daily checklist which at that point was not being used due to its inaccuracy. While I was supervisor, the store passed every corporate and every government inspection.
