About Graham Campbell

I’ve been interested in the therapeutic potential of psychedelic drugs since medical school in Birmingham in the late 1990s. This evolved from my early fascination with dreaming, psychoanalysis and consciousness.I’ve trained in psychiatry since 2006. In 2012, finished my training and completed an MSc in Neuroscience with distinction from Kings College London. My focus was on the role of inflammation in the aetiology of depression. That same year, I started working as an NHS inpatient consultant psychiatrist at Mill View Hospital in Brighton & Hove (Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust). From February 2018, I trained with the Imperial College London team to work as an assistant guide on the trial comparing psilocybin with escitalopram for Major Depression. This concluded in early 2020 and published in 2021.I’ve been active in support/harm-minimisation psychedelic integration groups in Brighton since 2019 and was instrumental in organising educational events at Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) later that year. In 2020, I left the NHS after 17 years to work in psychedelic therapy research full-time. I accepted a position as Director of Clinical Psychiatry with Small Pharma Ltd and was fully seconded to Hammersmith Medicines Research (HMR) as the Study Psychiatrist for a trial investigating N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) as a potential treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. In December 2022, I left Small Pharma to work as a fully independent contracted psychiatrist in the clinical trials, a role which came to an end in June 2023. I was an Associate Editor for a special edition of Frontiers in Psychiatry entitled ‘Can Psychedelic Therapies open a New Frontier in Mental Healthcare (Or Will the Bubble Burst?)’. I work with the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy, as a member of the Advisory Council and chair of the Academic Circle, and as a mentor for the Augmented Psychotherapy Training (APT) programme with MIND Foundation in Berlin.I am a writer for Lumenate; a psychedelic meditation app that uses stroboscopic light to deepen meditation.I now work most of the week as an associate psychiatrist in the private sector at Flint Healthcare. When I'm not working, I enjoy writing, photography and electronic music production.
