Prior to becoming a nurse, I had worked extensively in paid capacities in the voluntary sector, first with Brent Victim Support Scheme as an outreach worker (where I was trained to work with families of murder victims), and latterly with the Newham Conflict & Change Project, which provided a community mediation service. As a trainer I facilitated training, both with project volunteers and outside organisations.I trained at the Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery and qualified as a Registered Nurse (Children) in 2001.I worked as a staff nurse in paediatric surgery and medicine at Lewisham University Hospital in South London between 2001 and 2003.From 2003, I was Locality Nurse for the Children's Continuing Care Team at Barking & Dagenham PCT providing 24/7 care for children with complex health needs living at home.In 2005, studied at London South Bank University for PG Dip. Community Nursing. Qualified as Specialist Practitioner - Community Children's Nursing.During a career break I undertook a City & Guilds course and now hold a Level 2 qualification in domestic hot & cold water and heating. I am possibly the only paediatric nurse in the UK who is also a C&G qualified plumber!In 2011 I began my return to the nursing profession when I joined Bupa Home Healthcare as a Clinical Support Worker. In September 2012 I undertook a Return to Nursing Practice course at the University of Hertfordshire and re-activated my NMC registration in March 2013.I immediately started employment with Bupa Home Healthcare as Charge Nurse (Training & Quality). I continue to work with children who have complex health needs requiring in some cases 24-hour care. This may include children who have tracheostomies and are ventilated.Outside of work I enjoy archery and am a Level 1 Coach at my local club. I also have a small motorboat which I have fully restored and like to use whenever possible, I hold RYA Powerboat Level 2 and VHF/DSC qualifications.
