An experienced global business leader within the occupational safety and health world with over 20 years’ experience in a variety of high and low risk environments in both private and public sectors. His background in health and safety management includes strategic OSH leadership for Real Estate, FM, Logistics, Aviation and general health and safety management sectors. Graham is a Fellow and Past President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). He is also a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk Safety Management (IIRSM), a Professional Member of The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), International Member of Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), Certified Member of Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (CIWFM) and Graham is a Non-Exec Director at RoSPA. Through his work with various organisations, Graham has been able to engage on a global platform with world and organisational leaders including the ILO, WHO, ISSA and governments across the world.

For more than 100 years, RoSPA has been working behind the scenes to change both legislation and attitudes surrounding accidents, including the compulsory wearing of seatbelts and the campaign to stop drink driving, to the Cycling Proficiency Test and to the more recent ban on handheld mobile phones behind the wheel. As a registered charity and through campaigning, carrying out research, influencing legislation, informing and educating, auditing and providing expert consultancy to businesses, RoSPA has maintained a position as the leading advocates for the wellbeing of people everywhere.The Trustees of the Charity delegate the day-to-day management of the Charity to its ChiefExecutive, along with the senior management team. A total of 115 staff work for RoSPA. Trustees are responsible for fiduciary and financial oversight and for agreeing the strategy of the Charity. There are sub-committees reporting to the main Trustee Board on finances and investments, Remuneration and Nominations.The Charity also works in partnership with statutory bodies as well as with other charities and voluntary organisations to maximise its effectiveness.

I feel so honoured to be part of such a wonderful organisation as RoSPA and the Awards. As a RoSPA Awards Ambassador I feel a great sense of privilege to show what can come from partaking in what I consider to be the world’s greatest Awards for workplace Occupation Safety and Health. Being involved myself as an award entrant for almost 20 years with different organisations, I have not only seen the success of receiving the awards but also from the reflection the submission process gives you. For the past four years I have been part of the judging panel for the RoSPA Awards Sector winners and Sir George Earle Trophy and have enjoyed the challenges of comparing and benchmarking the shortlisted nominees when you are comparing different sectors to find an overall winner. This led me to accept the role of Awards Ambassador because I have a passion to ensure that organisations don’t see the awards as a tick box exercise but to truly reflect on what they do to ensure the workforce as well as those they affect though their activity remain healthy and go home to their loved ones. The RoSPA Awards are your organisations ultimate reflection, benchmarking and reward for what many take for granted but is a result of the hard work from a team.

As independent chair for the AA Health, Safety and Environment Steering Committee I take an independent view on the appropriate oversight and strategic direction of the organisation from a Health, Safety and Environmental perspective, ensuring the best interests of the organisation, its customers, employees and other stakeholders are protected.In doing so I scrutinise and support the activities of the Senior Management Team in meeting the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) goals and objectives set by the business and monitor the reporting of performance and the efficacy of the processes achieved. In addition, I provide specific knowledge and skills to create a well-balanced and effective Health, Safety & Environment Steering Committee.

Mapeley was formed in 1999 to invest in UK real estate leased to high quality tenants and now owns and operates a property portfolio in excess of 1,670 properties, worth more than £2 billion, covering some 2.4 million square metres. Working closely with clients such as Santander, Microsoft, HMRC, IPS and many more, in an effective commercial mannr. As Head of Health & Safety reporting into the Board, my role is to ensure a strong stratigic approach to H&S compliance for Mapeley and our clients. Other key areas of the role include; A proactive and versatile approach in providing advice on a wide range of Health & Safety issues at Board level, the continued registration of OHSAS 18001 and the development of relationships with enforcing authorities.

I was very proud to be the Chair of my local Branch of the worlds largest not for profit Chartered OSH institution.IOSH is the worlds leading and foremost Safety Organisation helping to ensure sensible pragmatic practice is seen as a genuine way to add value to all businesses.As Chair, I see my role is to ensure that our members are supported to fulfil their full potential. Throughout my association with IOSH I have aimed to uphold high standards and to challenge poor practice and I intend to continue to ensure that our members have a moral example to follow.

I was proud to serve as the President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world's only chartered professional body for OSH practitioners responsible for Occupational Safety and Health in the workplace. As President of IOSH, I see my role as a champion, supporter, adviser and advocate for occupational safety and health professionals working in organisations of all sizes across the globe.  I share a passion and determination to ensure that pragmatic clear honest communication leads to a cut in the number of people who die or fall ill because of their work, by helping organisations to create safer, healthier and more sustainable working practices. Our charitable aims are to promote ways to improve occupational health and safety to help IOSH members and the public exchange information and ideas. It is also noted that IOSH maintain and improve the professional status of IOSH members and people involved in improving health and safety at work. IOSH continues to campaign on mental health in the workplace, an ever growing area of the health and safety portfolio.  We’re keen to see work-related psychosocial risk prevented and managed regardless of organisation size or type. We’ve also been working on our third stage of the No Time to Lose (NTTL) Campaign on silica dust and recently held discussions regarding proposed changes to the EU Directive on Carcinogens or Mutagens at Work. We plan to roll out the Asbestos element of NTTL during my Presidential Year.

Council and the members of IOSH have given me the ultimate honour of being the institutions next President Elect. I have served IOSH for a number of years and now have the pleasure to represent IOSH as part of the Presidential team for the next three years. IOSH is the worlds leading and foremost Safety Organisation helping to ensure sensible pragmatic OSH practice is seen as a genuine way to add value to all businesses.

For the last 6 1/2 years I have been a member of the Thames Valley Branch Committee and I see my role as a Fellow of the institute to ensure that our members are supported to fulfil their full potential. Throughout my association with IOSH I have aimed to uphold high standards and to challenge poor practice and I intend to continue this approach in the interest of the members, branches and the Institution.

Yell is a major multi-national media organisation, who’s growth had accelerated rapidly over the last decade. My H&S function within Yell was strategically to review legislation, public domain prosecutions and output from regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and the development of best practice within the H&S management system. To review and develop H&S policies establishing Yell as a business leader and ensuring that the brand is protected. To provide consultancy support to the Yell group on H&S issues that may affect the business to ensure compliance and promote best practice within the field. Ensuring that a programme of site visits and audits were carried out to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in workplace practice. Developing relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure continuous improvement in, H&S practice and policy within the business, while creating trust, clear communication, question and challenge, problem solving, persuade and influence, build relationships, change leadership, strategic thinking.

The ADI Group, was a leading provider of operational staffing services, and outsourcing solutions within the aviation and airport passenger services market. The European group employed 12,000 people at 117 locations. I was the Groups Safety & Quality Manager covering the UK and Europe, implementing and monitoring both H&S & ISO9002 Quality System. I was Involved in developing and implementing training programmes to all levels. Responsibilities for securing the health, safety and welfare of all employees, contractors and of visiting members of the public through varies means. Ensuring and monitoring the provision of suitable training at induction, annual refreshers and for specialized areas, and to deliver those programs. Keeping of records related to Accident Investigation. Preventative surveys / audits to increase Line Managers awareness.

Held various positions including Store Manager and Area Manager, Store Opening Projects and finally holding the position of Health & Safety Officer in the Logistics division.
