Contract Senior Design Engineer working within Advanced Anaerobic Digestion Technology.The role includes the design and development of full process plants from concept to completion for renewable energy throughout the world utilising 3D CAD.

Working with Shark Performance to design and manufacture new products for the automotive tuning industry.We are also available for freelance rapid prototyping and engineering design resources.

At Lloyd’s Register Rail I was working as a contract Designer for design consultancy work within the rail industry. I was working on a snow plough train for a large rail organisation within the UK. Using SolidWorks, this included designing and detailing of large assemblies and parts that make up the wagon. The work included frame design and detailing, mechanical assembly and associated bracketry design and detailing. Full engineering design models and detail drawings were required for this role. My main responsibilities were to produce technically correct and dimensionally accurate drawings to meet the project team’s targets using 2D and 3D CAD. This includes working on all types of Monsal schemes within the three Monsal business streams. When designing Monsal schemes, I was usually involved from the sales proposal all the way through to full detail design and installation of the schemes. Working as part of the technical department, I had to make sure that all designs were produced in compliance with the contract specifications and that they are optimised in terms of cost, manufacture, delivery and function. I also had to liaise technically with subcontractors and attend design review meetings with clients. This included visiting sites and producing as built drawings after the plant was installed. I was the responsible person within the design department for implementing and developing both 2D and 3D CAD software. This included developing standards, working practices, libraries and then policing them. Whilst working at Monsal I achieved many things that I am proud of. These included successfully implementing SolidWorks 3D CAD software to a standard that has surpassed all expectations within the company. I am a Certified SolidWorks Professional and solid modelling specialist, which was achieved by completing 3 core module exams. I completed and passed the IOSH Managing Safely course and CDM regulations course. I was also the company engineering department fire warden. Show less

This includes access steelwork, mezzanine floors, secondary steelwork, architectural (staircases, handrail and balustrade), flue support structures and steel chimneys. This included secondary steelwork for new and existing buildings, access platforms and ladders, chimneys, staircases and hand railing. All designs were bespoke engineering solutions so I was constantly working on new design solutions to customer requirements. Working closely with the project managers, I had to deal with customers and sub-suppliers on a daily basis to ensure the projects ran smoothly and were always delivered on time.Whilst at James Engineering I gained valuable knowledge of building regulations and codes, and site installation, as most of the products were very large in scale. Using Microstation 2D CAD and then later Solid Edge 3D CAD, I then produced GA and detail drawings for manufacture. Documentation was also required including bills of materials, operation and maintenance manuals, quality plans, weld location and material location sketches. The contracts I dealt with were usually for very high profile companies in the oil and gas industries and I had to attend meetings with the clients, which included travelling abroad on occasions. I also worked very closely with the Research and Development Manager to continue the development of all products. All equipment is bespoke engineered and I constantly worked under extreme pressure. I had to work to many design standards including; The Pressure Equipment Directive, ASME and PD5500. Whilst working at Transvac I achieved many things. A key achievement was learning to use and implementing 3D modelling software with Solid Edge 3D CAD. This included implementing the software for the other Contract Engineers to use, and designing the file saving structure. I also implemented many procedures for the documentation packages, including weld location and material location sketches and jointing and NDT control sheets. I also standardised the way in which venturi type desuperheaters were designed so that Transvac could keep stock as it was a very high selling product. My main role was to design and project orders from being received right through until delivery. Products I worked on included Trickle Impregnation Machines for the impregnation of motor stator windings, 3 and 6 Axis Adhesive Applicators (Cartesian Robots) and Hot Roll Dip Machines.
