My key principles are: • I am committed to helping businesses and individuals with financial and debt pressures to overcome those problems; winding up is the last resort.• When formal insolvency is unavoidable, I will recommend the most appropriate procedure for the particular circumstances to achieve the best outcome for creditors and guarantors.• I will not charge clients for the privilege of explaining their problems. There will be no charge for an initial meeting.• Professional reputation and integrity matter. I will always be driven by the need to provide the best possible advice, not to maximise fees.• I am interested in building long-term relationships with professional advisers.I trained as a Chartered Accountant with the family firm in South Wales. Early on I concluded that the tedium of auditing was something I could do without, preferring the nail-biting excitement of the more unpredictable world of insolvency.I obtained my licence to act as an Insolvency Practitioner in 1988. In 1990 I joined a "Top 20" accounting firm to set up its corporate recovery and insolvency department in the South West, where I was involved in a number of high profile assignments and managed a portfolio of liquidations under the law of Gibraltar. In 1995 I was invited to become a partner in a London-based, niche insolvency practice, again establishing that firm’s presence in the South West. In 2009 I set up Burton Sweet Corporate Recovery.Outside work, I have won national recognition for my work as a school governor.Specialties: I have more than 40 years' experience of dealing with both company and personal insolvency assignments, both large and small, complex and straighforward, and across a broad range of industries and sectors. My experience includes informal arrangements and restructurings, as well as administrations, receiverships, liquidations, voluntary arrangements and bankruptcies. I have also acted as an expert witness in litigation.
