Only the second permanent member of the software development team, I worked closely with colleagues throughout the company, identifying and developing improvements and new features for Parmenion's web-based discetionary management platform as it grew from managing a few tens of millions of pounds, to nearly £2 billion across 30,000 portfolios by 2015.The environment and technology stack changed over the course of my three years of employment, moving from a legacy Webforms implementation in VB.NET over a custom data layer, to a fully-fleshed out Entity Framework-based ASP.NET MVC implementation.My experience with Parmenion has granted me expertise in ASP.NET, but I have worked on the full development stack, from SQL Server, through Entity Framework, all the way up to JavaScript development (including jQuery and Knockout).

As a member of the Group Engineering division's Software Engineering team, I had opportunities to work with a wide range of internal clients on a diverse array of technologies. Operating as an internally contracted resource, I worked in teams of anywhere up to a dozen people, all the way down to solo projects, often moving between completely different divisions of the company. Primarily an Embedded Software Engineer, I gained experience of the PIC Micro platform, programming for real-time systems in C and C++. I also developed a number of .NET desktop software applications for communicating with Renishaw's industrial devices via RS232 and USB interfaces.Much of my work involved optimisation, and in one instance I was able to reduce setup and calibration times of a scanning linear encoder by over 90% after implementing a real-time visualisation system in C# for the encoder calibration step.I also worked closely with the software testing team, for whom I initially worked when I joined the company as a junior engineer. I helped revise and improve their testing environment and automated many of their processes, and also introduced testing and certification processes for USB drivers as part of the Microsoft WHQL program.
