I walked into our local Crate and Barrel and asked about a Seasonal job in 2002. Wow - that was a good move! I had so much fun that Christmas with customers and the employee discount! After my first holiday season, there was a full-time Customer Service opportunity. Crate provided excellent training and growth opportunities. Before long I was a store manager in Dallas and then an area manager for Arizona, Florida, Georgia, and Texas. It was an exciting and challenging role. Gallery Director for a brand new 12,000 square foot gallery in Dallas with a focus on European oil paintings. It was a beautiful setting to work in with many art openings, events and viewings throughout the two years. Unfortunately, the art was not a match for local collectors. It was mainly 19th Century Realism, and the Texas market was buying Contemporary and Modern art.

It was brilliant to work for Sotheby's! We opened a regional office to support local buyers and consignors, and had events to introduce and educate on Sotheby’s services. Provided estimates on client properties and shipped consignments to New York for sale. When DFW clients consigned to a major auction, they flew me to New York. It was so exciting! After two years, Sotheby's decided to close the regional office and provide centralized customer support from New York.

We posted ads in the local newspapers (that seems so dated now!) for free valuations, visited clients in their homes, and provided estimates. I left this job because I was accepted into the Master's Program at University College Dublin. I thought I was moving back to Ireland, but I fell in love with a handsome New Yorker who proposed to me, and I returned to the USA after my Masters was complete.
