Following the successful hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover in 2012, Auckland again hosted this Blue Riband event in 2015. My role included the overall management and operational delivery of the event and procurement of commercial partners.Once again successful partnerships were built with new and returning sponsors; Heineken, Pernod Ricard, Vocus, NZME, and community partners; Trillian Trust. Over $1.94 million was generated through sponsorship and variety of commercial initiatives and concepts.The investment from host partners, sponsors and stakeholders was returned in kind with a successful entertainment and events programme that attracted more than 323,000 spectators to the Race Village, with 92% of visitors surveyed stating that the event made Auckland a more enjoyable place to live.
