Working in the Waste Water part of the business leading Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) for the regional areas of Cheshire & Merseyside. The role was to coach, enable & support employees within these areas to enable them to get safe home and well. Day-to-day work involves anything and everything HSW from getting called out to help advise on task based risk assessments, leading accident investigations to delivering Management Information reports to director level and various types of inspections. Further day-to-day duties included simplifying processes, delivering training, writing tool-box talks and working and advising on targeted regional strategies.

Initially hired as a CDMC for the new AMP6 Waste water program I worked on a portfolio of projects ranging from £170 million in value down to about £5 million. The CDM Integrator role evolved from a revision in the CDM Regulations in 2015. My role is to support and integrate CDM systems within United Utilities to ensure the safe delivery, legal compliance & cost savings of construction projects. The role covers many different types of delivery streams within United Utilities and the number of projects can number 10,000 at any one time from concept to completion – just to put the job role into perspective. The role involved writing systems / procedures / guidance, formulating and delivering training, coaching, assurance, as well as organising and chairing a CDM Forum for external contractors. I am required to be able to communicate at all levels from the boardroom to the apprentices to drive H&S through United Utilities.Further tasks outside of my role where writing bulletins, drafting tool box talks, delivering H&S presentations, accident investigation, DSE assessments, post incident reviews, general H&S advice and a stress risk assessment project.

Working as a CDMC on the early start AMP6 program

Working as a CDM Coordinator (CDMC) within the collaborative joint venture between Kier Construction, Murphy Group & Interseve to deliver major construction projects for the Client - United Utilities. Projects cover the fields of sewerage, sewage treatment, water treatment, waste water treatment, pumping stations and rising mains. They range in capital value from less than £0.5m to in excess of £10m in the Northern area. Additional aspects to this role was to write an entire H&S System covering policy, procedures & templates – this was not an update but a complete re-write.I was also trained as a behavioural safety trainer under SUSA (Safe and Unsafe Acts) and delivered a number of their courses to construction staff and management.

The short stay at Watts was dominated with the role of CDM Co-ordinator, and particularly with the transition from CDM 1992 to CDM 2007 regulations at the time encompassing all the logistical changes that the new legislation brought and disseminating the information throughout the group, as well as instructing Clients through presentations. Projects numbered around forty CDM notifiable ranging to £2.5m in both the public and private sector.

Going back to the old CDM regulations as a Planning Supervisor for over two years at the property development & design company. The jobs where mainly local authority such as schools, leisure facilities & rented accommodation. An addition to my role was to lead the Health & Safety on a corporate level including chairing committee meetings the formulation and implementation of policies, procedures and safe systems of work.

Work was general/specialist construction & training.Involved delivering training, site H&S inspections, workplace appraisals and accident investigations.Qualifications and experience earned was chartered professional membership of IOSH
