I’m Albert Grant Espy, a third-year student at the Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with minors in Material Science Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. As a Stamps President's Scholar, I’m honored to be among the top 1% of Georgia Tech students and strive to leverage this incredible opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the engineering world.My passion lies in advancing energy solutions and sustainable technologies. I’ve worked on projects that push the boundaries of innovation, such as leading the development of a radiation detection rover for nuclear site decommissioning and contributing to Chevron’s global carbon capture material selection guide. These experiences have equipped me with expertise in materials science, mechanical system design, and the ability to tackle complex engineering challenges.At Georgia Tech, I serve as the President and Head Mechanical Engineer for the Solar Racing Team, leading a multidisciplinary team of 120 students. Together, we design and manufacture cutting-edge solar-powered vehicles while managing a $100,000+ annual budget. This role has allowed me to develop strong leadership skills and practical engineering knowledge in CAD, FEA, composite materials, and product development.Beyond technical expertise, I’m deeply invested in fostering leadership and personal growth. • I lead a team of graduate students in a cross disciplinary collaboration project between multiple Georgia Teach Lab to build a rover to help decommission nuclear sites through radiation detection to eventually produce as a product• Worked on creating a robot that has the ability to collect soil sampled using a robotic arm to then do detection and analysis of radionuclides within the soil in order to determine the danger of the area and threat to the ecosystem. I am the leader of this team working with graduate students in a multi-lab effort in order to make the project become a reality. I work both in the design but also the project management parts of the project helping to keep everyone on track. I serve as the bridge between the RED^2 Lab and the CORE robotics lab as we use our unique knowledge to help form a greener future.
