Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems, data processing systems and procedures for GDM to include applications, databases, network administration, applications programming, and user support; interface and coordinate with external constituents to meet system objectives.Ensure optimum system performance and efficient computer utilization; conduct system studies to evaluate electronic data processing needs; recommend the procurement of additional computer equipment.Analyze user needs and establish policies and procedures for modifying GDM’s information systems; provide current information to users regarding systems procedures; participate in planning for future information needs.Maintain liaison with representatives of other interest groups/data processing operations to establish and maintain appropriate interface or exchange of data with existing or planned systems.Maintain liaison with professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.Manage the preparation and presentation of new applications or enhancements to information systems.

Responsible for developing, implementing and directing the Commission’s strategic plans as they pertain to the organization’s Information Technology needs that are required to support its economic and regulatory mandate. Provide leadership and consultation with the Commission’s Executive, management and staff concerning the development of new IT hardware/software applications as well as modifications and/or enhancements to current business systems. Responsible for determining and recommending IT based solutions to diverse Commission needs and manage, through the full information systems life cycle, projects involving the design, development, installation, testing and commissioning of all Commission business system applications. Responsible for ensuring the ongoing maintenance and operational efficiency of the Commission’s IT infrastructure and its technological compatibility with the needs of the organizations staff, clients and industry, First Nations and government stakeholders.

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Oil and Gas Commissions GIS system and for ensuring that spatial data and analysis tools are available and accessible for use by staff in support of business decisions.Design, develop, implement, manage and administer the OGC GIS; including project management for implementation of the GIS portion of the OGC Strategic IS plan, preparation and implementation of the annual GIS plan, and leading the ongoing introduction of new GIS hardware, software and processes into the OGC. Coordinated up to date, high quality, accurate spatial data, interpretations, analysis, and data integration tools for use by OGC staff in implementation of government priorities and program responsibilities. Integrate data from across various ministry programs to support OGC responsibilities.Develop spatial data handling methods and standards to be used by OGC staff to ease and consolidate the flow of data for their business needs. Ensure corporate standards are used in the development and management of data and databases and participation in the revision of standards using database tools and technologies.Supervise the daily activities of GIS personnelIn the annual GIS plan, capture, prioritize and communicate the business spatial data requirements of the OGC. Develop a clear statement of spatial data needs, including cross program integration and a plan for supplying them.Provide processes and ongoing support to OGC staff for the assembly, transformation, analysis and map presentation of spatial data. Develop and support automated processes for the ongoing supply of spatial data, displayed as maps, by using the procedural capabilities of available GIS and database tools.Ensure the spatial data interests of the OGC are represented in joint initiatives with other ministriesProvide spatial data expertise for inventory contract development and quality assures contract deliverables
