I served as a writer, audio engineer, and project manager for the development of a sci-fi podcast. The podcast was selected and funded as part of the 2021 cohort of “Ready to Learn” from the U.S. Department of Education, PBS and PRX. "Abi and the Cosmic Caravan" was a blind futurist adventure designed for classrooms at schools for the blind. Nine-year-old Abi and her diverse migrant community follow work through the not-so-sleek parts of the galaxy. Narrating in first-person, she mish-mashes together assistive tech and invites other species to try out adaptive games. To develop the pilot episode, our team received 10 weeks training in design thinking and creative marketing from PBS Kids and PRX.Our team consisted of Janet Perez, Mecail Martin, Kira deCoudres, Veronica Puente, and Kijuan Amey.

Collected anadromous fish count data for USGS research. Presented ecologies and economies of the Connecticut River to school groups and general public. Prepared curriculum on Native American livelihoods in coordination with the Nolumbeka Project. Designed indoor and outdoor educational displays.

I assisted in livelihoods research performed by a consortium of U.S., Mexican, and international universities and NGOs in collaboration with CESMACH, an organic fair trade coffee cooperative. I took part in a diagnostic survey of coffee farmers, data entry, configuring and troubleshooting technology, training community promoters, and communicating results to cooperative leaders.I also designed and implemented research project for my senior thesis in collaboration with coffee farmers and CESMACH leadership. This work focused on community economics surrounding the coffee harvest. This work was an extension of the research with which I collaborated. I designed collective surveying techniques, performed interviews and participant observation, and hosted meetings with women in cooperative member households.

I was the head of communications and finances for the inaugural Ethics and the Common Food Symposium at Hampshire College. The symposium featured a presentation and panel discussion with business owners, sustainability certifiers, and food systems experts. Student-researchers from Hampshire College, including myself, presented our work on the tensions between market forces and sustainability ethics. Even more, we examined the relationships between the sometimes not-so-harmonious pillars of economic, social, and environmental sustainability. This event was funded by private donors, the Roddenberry Foundation, the Ethics and the Common Good Foundation, and the Department of Natural Sciences at Hampshire College.
