Environmental & Sustainability Officer

Current

Stockton, California, United States

Manage citywide Sustainability & Environmental efforts - as a division of the City Manager’s Office - and oversee the implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) objectives. This includes design, development, and management of citywide sustainability and environmental projects and programs, oversight of CAP, and compliance with local, state, and federal environmental rules and regulations. Implementation of these projects and programs is highly dependent on grant funding and other external opportunities - I am responsible for pursuing new funding as well as managing a $50M+ diverse portfolio of State and Federal grants.

Oct 2023 - Present

Program Manager Iii

Stockton, California, United States

Responsible for the successful execution of the City's $10.8M Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Implementation Grant. Charged with leading a coalition of non-profits, stakeholders, and residents on behalf of the City to complete TCC-funded projects. These projects include a major capital project in downtown, energy- and water- efficiency programs, single- and multi-family solar installation programs, urban greening, and healthy food access. The objective of these projects is to achieve neighborhood-level transformation by creating resilient communities and improving the overall quality of the local environment through emissions reduction. These projects were identified and prioritized by the community during the TCC Planning Grant to empower those most impacted by poor environmental health outcomes.

Dec 2020 - Oct 2023

Fellow

Stockton, California

Assisted the City Manager's Office through the pursuit of projects that furthered the strategic goals of the City. This included drafting and submitting grant applications, building out the City's performance management process, revising citywide policies, and generally supporting the executive team of the City. The focus of my Fellowship was eventually to complete the City's application for Round 3 of the $28.2M Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Implementation Grant offered by the California Strategic Growth Council. This involved leading a coalition of 10 non-profit Partners to develop a portfolio of projects (within the parameters of the grant guidelines) that would achieve significant greenhouse gas reduction, improve public health, and expand economic opportunity and shared prosperity. Ultimately, the City and its Partners were awarded a partial award of $10.8M in June 2020. I was entrusted with overseeing the Post-Award Consultation Process, and was hired by the City of Stockton to manage the Implementation Grant at the conclusion of that process.

May 2019 - Dec 2020

President

Associated Students Of The University Of The Pacific

Stockton, California Area

Served two terms as the President of the Associated Students of the University of the Pacific (ASuop). As President, I represented and advocated for the entire undergraduate student body. This entailed regular meetings with high level administrators, attending Board of Regents meetings, and lobbying with local and state government officials. I was also responsible for managing the Executive Branch of ASuop, which used its $1.2M budget to, among other things, host large-scale events (concerts, speaker series, homecoming activities), offer graphic design services to student clubs at no charge, oversee the funding of all student clubs, and host a free movie series. My administration transformed the internal structures of ASuop by enacting more efficient and transparent policies. Furthermore, through a modest increase in the ASuop Fee (approved by the student body), I expanded the entertainment services offered by ASuop - including a new speakers series and a homecoming concert. I was also successful in advocating for reduced tuition, pushing for a reduction in annual tuition increases both years. In addition to advocating for lower tuition, I started fundraising for a new endowed scholarship to support exceptional student leaders with unmet financial need.

Senator Of Religious And Spiritual Life

Associated Students Of The University Of The Pacific

University Of The Pacific

Served as a Senator in the Associated Students of the University of the Pacific. As Religious and Spiritual Life Senator, I represented all religious organizations across campus and advocated on their behalf. During my tenure, I reformed our entire legal and financial system, drafted and eventually passed a new constitution for the government, and fought for greater transparency from the school administration.

Program Intern

Washington D.C. Metro Area

During my internship at the National Housing Conference I deepened my understanding of the role of nonprofit organizations in advocacy work while also developing my research skills and knowledge of the federal government. I was regularly tasked with researching complex issues related to affordable housing and preparing memorandum for the Executive Director and other staff. Furthermore, my work often involved attending Congressional Hearings to gain deeper insight on the focus of the Congress related to affordable housing.

Jun 2018 - Aug 2018

Policy Research Intern

City Of Stockton, Mayor'S Office

425 N. El Dorado St., City Hall

As a Policy Research Intern I regularly research, prepare, and present policy proposals for review by the Mayor's Senior Staff. Given the urgency with which Stockton’s problems need attending to, we have dedicated ourselves solely to developing policy and other substantive work. Some of these pressing issues include, but are not limited to: improving police-community relations to reduce crime, implementing a housing first model to end homelessness, and altering municipal regulations to accommodate marijuana legalization.

Jan 2017 - Aug 2017

Deputy Field Director Of Operations

Michael Tubbs For Mayor

Stockton, California Area

As a Deputy Field Director on the campaign, I was primarily responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of our volunteer and internship programs. Regular duties included preparing voter lists and supply bags for canvassers and phone bankers, entering data into the campaign's database system, hosting educational workshops for the high school interns, and coordinating campaign events with the Field Director. This position required me to directly manage six field organizers who were responsible for leading teams of volunteers and interns to canvas neighborhoods across Stockton.
