Grant Logan, the founder of Ability Today CIC, had a motorbike accident in 2003 which crushed his spine, altering the trajectory of his life forever. Formerly a music business manager, Grant's resilience and determination guided him through gruelling months of recovery and a battle with MRSA. Inspired by his experiences, he became deeply involved in the disabled community, founding The Wheel Life, the first social network for wheelchair users, before establishing Disability Today, now rebranded as Ability Today. Grant has now been nominated for his 4th year running in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 list of the most influential disabled people in the UK, with Ability Today winning NCTJ’s Excellence Award for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in 2022. In 2023 they were finalists in the Tech4Good Awards, National Diversity Awards, and Inclusive Awards. 2024 already sees them finalists in the British Diversity Awards. Ability Today, a not-for-profit education and resource platform, is dedicated to training disabled individuals and providing pathways to employment. Since starting the ‘Roving Reporter Programme’ in 2018, the organisation has expanded, launching its first Academy training course in 2020 with The Academy for Disabled Journalists, and now offering three courses spanning Journalism and SEO. In its fifth year, Ability Today boasts over 100 students who have passed through its online academy, with alumni securing full-time positions at prestigious media outlets like the BBC, Newsquest, and ITV, as well as freelancing for publications such as Metro, Radio Times, and Lifestyle Magazine. Partnering with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), Ability Today has been instrumental in training journalists for the media jobs of tomorrow, while making education and training accessible. 2023 saw the organisation partner with Novos to launch the Academy for Disabled SEO Specialists, and in 2025, plans are in place for Bookkeeping and coding academies. Most disabled people want to be employed, and remote working and studying has revolutionised opportunities for disabled individuals. Now, people can work around their disabilities and actively participate in work or class from the comfort of their homes, no longer feeling isolated and left out of job opportunities.https://abilitytoday.comhttp://www.disabilitytoday.co.ukhttp://thewheellife.comhttp://www.thewheellifeguide.com
