Complete Hydraulic Services provided a opportunity to utilise my skills in fluid power mobile hydraulics.After being in industry for more than 30 years my personal network is an important tool in establishing where is the business, financial risk and future sales.From my previous employers I had developed a further understanding not only on the control function of the machines but how they were used by operator(s) to preform the tasks. This understanding opened up new business opportunities in different market segments specialising in integrated control system solutions. The operator(s) information is invaluable to design, for selection of hardware and implementing a system. My secondary responsible is for the concept and design, the selection of hardware to met the criteria that can be sourced first from our graphical country location (off the shelf). To many times I have seen OS product used that get in the way of simple well constructed design!As a designer there and many areas that need to come together, formal documents, client expectation, compliance and specific standards, inspection process, drafting, budget forecast, resource management and training, etc. Micro controllers play a big part in many designs. Latest mobile machines have a number of ECU's that provide outputs to array of control function simultaneously. The input of a simple mechanical hydraulic joystick now are being replaced by electronic input from the operator. I have had the opportunity to design and install many systems to met OEMs specification. Whatever the outcome is required it relies upon getting the specification right first time and much communication between both parties.My business acumen has grown to provide me with professional representation in many levels of marketing and sales strategies, design, preparation and submission of tender, forecasting budgets, project management and WHS.I look forward to the up and coming challenges that industry presents.

My main roll was the overseer of preventive maintenance and compliance of plant and equipment for the foundation construction. Resource management planning was critical to ensure the equipment was ready mobilisation upon short notice. Machinery and equipment consisted: of bored piling drill rigs, pin jib flat track cranes, concrete pumps, anchoring drill rigs, jet grouting, diaphragm wall and general fleet of transport vehicles.To maintain the equipment a multi discipline skills were require,heavy engineering, fabrication of tooling and apparatus, machining, , electrical DC and AC, micro controller based system and automotive engineering.Not only was the responsibility to keep the equipment fit for purpose but also involved transportation logics. For each construction project in any state equipment had relocated down to the smallest item a 2kg hammer. Understanding of the RTA rules and regulations were paramount for transporting large equipment around the country especially in some remote locations, this presented many obstacles, especially fuel. It was necessary to developed and implement many formal documents for verification of servicing, inspection, compliance/registration and equipment picking/packing lists. Extensive project management skills were draw upon during this period to establish a new workshop facilities in NSW and Qld from the ground up. State industrial building regulations and rules had to researched for the all services for construction, council, water, and electrical to ensure statutory compliance was met during and completion of these projects.It was very exciting and challenging time in the my career. When I look back at this achievement I am amazed at what a person can do if you put your mind it. Formal process of scheduling and documentation commenced and buildings rose from the earth, from nothing. The knowledge gained from these project was invaluable. I had to thank my work colleagues and industry professional for their help.

This was my second term of employment at Berendsen Fluid Power after a break of 3mths.After returning my primarily roll was sales. Service existing accounts and establishing new clients. It was already familiar the existing accounts and responsible for a portfolio of $1.2M annual with a goal of 12% EBIT.Although the this job was a sales roll, forward planning, forecasting and risk analysis, my fluid power application knowledge along with cross industry experience gave me a competitive edge. This allowed me to provide clients immediate solutions and workable suggestions. Leaving them with a good sense of confidence that we could would get the job done.This lead to a high strike rate of order taking and client satisfaction.Two of most difficult things in such a roll was client forecast and confidentiality. An accounting view of the future with growth, not and ease task! The trick is to know you client business well, market place, and managing the risk of exposure.As for confidentiality, testimonials are good, but on occasions you deal with competitor clients. Extreme professional confidentiality is the must. The IP is important even if not commercially contracted. One of the most interesting tasks during this period of my career was developing and delivering specific onsite training for our clients.After teaching part time at TAFE for ten years in the field of Automotive Engineering & Aircraft Mobile Hydraulics it’s a good to be able to pass on those skills. (It was a bit like the dead poet society movie with actor Robin Williams)Many training programs were developed and delivered in consultation with our clients about their specific plant and equipment. The goal was to give the trainee the competency’s to identify, diagnose and resolve issues in the field using the available equipment, improvise without compromise.
