My core focus was in negotiating new lease terms on behalf of office and retail clients, the financial modelling of transactions, and assisting with the transaction management process during acquisitions. I was also responsible for business development, sales and ongoing account management and was successful in onboarding and representing various new clients in the office and retail sectors.

Grindrod Bank is a boutique investment bank, particularly active in structured finance and mezzanine debt for the commercial property market. My primary focus was around deal origination and relationship management. Particular responsibilities included:• Sourcing new clients and ensuring the maintenance and growth of the loan book;• Performing due diligence on transactions - including desktop valuations of properties, financial analysis of transactions, financial modeling, and preparing credit proposals for presentation to the Bank’s credit committee;• Relationship management and providing clients with necessary information and assistance to support transactions;• Admin including proposals to credit, monitoring expiring facilities and following up with all aspects required to conclude a transaction.In addition, I formed part of a small team responsible for the development management of the complete redevelopment of Grindrod Bank's new 9000sqm head office in Sandton, Johannesburg. I was also involved in the growth of the Bank's equity fund (Grindrod Property Private Equity Fund) that primarily invested as a minority shareholder, on a joint venture basis, in select commercial real estate transactions.
