About Grant Schiederer

My name is Grant Schiederer and I am a freshman at University of Arkansas. I am majoring in Information Systems with a concentration in Business Analytics. I graduated at Bentonville High School in 2023 in the top 4 percent of my class. In all my endeavors the virtues that inspired success were passion and curiosity. I found myself exceling not on the basis of pure aptitude or relentless discipline, but rather the impetus of love for the subject. My mind is mathematical, founded on an inclination towards numbers and patterns. I've found beyond the concepts and their application in business that math builds your problem-solving skills, critical thinking ability, and logical cognition. Math has been instrumental in all aspects of my life. I shared this passion through Mathnasium and private tutoring hoping to instill the same love that I possess for the subject. Business has always been and interest of mine for its focus on human interactions and people. In high school I was a dedicated member of DECA, a business oriented international organization, my junior and senior year of high school. Senior year I polled and earned the title VP of Marketing spearheading the advertisement and promotion of DECA. My junior year I placed second place in state for the professional selling event and 1st place my senior year in the Innovation Plan event. I also competed at the national competition in Orlando placing in the upper quartile of participants. I've had the privilege of working at multiple firms for internships such as Lighthouse Financial, RiskKarma, and 37 North Expeditions, focusing on data analytics and consulting. My last academic focus is computer science has proliferated my logical thinking and creativity with the myriad of complex problems and challenges you solve. I've taken multiple computer science classes and have been thoroughly challenged and mentally stimulated. It was through these courses that I was able to acquire an entry level python certification through Certiport. In each of these fields, my curiosity has been the cornerstone. My drive to learn and question has allowed me to mantle every roadblock or trial. In conjunction with my passion, I have consistently and reliably showcased my ability to adapt and perform under any circumstance.

At Chick-Fil-A my role was a customer facing role handling transactions, providing exceptional service in accordance with their standard, and bagging and preparing food in a neat and consistent manner. Anyone who has gone to Chick-Fil-A has probably taken note of the service. Always greeted with a smile and met with a "my pleasure." It's was my role and responsibility to carry out this responsibility to uphold that reputation and ensure that each customer has the best fast food experience possible. I worked with 40+ hours a week for 3 months. I elected for premium availability meaning I was waking up at 5 for the 5:45 opening shifts and closing the store at 12:30 AM. What I can say about this role is that it inspired serious work ethic, resilience, and persistence. The skills I attained could not have been gleaned in an office job role. I've heard countless times that it's important to work fast food so you have empathy for those people you interact with weekly. That could not be more true. This role was essential to developing myself as a person. The patience required to manage a fussy customer. The tenacity to show up and perform every day. The resilience to bounce back after a tough day. All of these I can see myself translating to any job, relationship, or hurdle I face.

I worked on a team with two other students to help build their developing company. We worked to improve metrics and idea presentation through detailed charts and graphs, improve data visualization using JavaScript and CSS, and promote business growth with innovative and unique business practices. My primary role within the team was performing a competitive analysis on LogicManager, Riskonnect, and Resolver through analyzing client reviews and determining areas of weakness for Riskkarma to execute on. My other task was a joint effort with another student to parse Risk Analysis sources and articles and extract meaningful information for Riskkarma to implement. We used Python Modules like Pandas and Beautiful Soup by were unsuccessful due to the complexity of the task. We still researched and developed a framework with the necessary steps to accomplish the task.
