Returned to Trimble working out of the Auckland Trimble - Loadrite office but for the same team I'd been on prior to leaving. Worked as the developer in a newly created process to make additions to already released software for customers to help close deals and that couldn't be meet via the normal in house engineering process. Used Visual Studio 2008, C++, python, Jenkins and targeted WinCE6.In December 2016 I moved back to Christchurch office where I became involved in the nextgen product within the normal engineering process. Developed mainly C++ in Visual Studio (2015, 2017), clang and GCC on both windows and linux, and also some development of an Android client and an angular webapp, also made use of python, lua and Jenkins

Developed network capture and analysis software running on custom high performance hardware for installation in data-centres. Responsible for the integration of Compuware's application performance management product within a virtual machine running an Endace appliance.Developed predominantly in C on Ubuntu for running on Centos, learnt a lot about virtual machines and remote machine management. Also some exposure to Java.

I was part of a software engineering team in the CTCT group at Trimble, a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar that produced a range of products for the automation of earth moving, highway, and other heavy construction (see http://www.trimble.com/construction/heavy-civil/machine-control/grade-control). The role involved developing application software for an in cab display that made use of various sensors including GPS, total stations, lasers, sonic sensors, angle sensors and inertial measurement units (IMUs), connected by radio, wi-fi, CAN, serial and ethernet to improve the productivity of the operator and the machine. The existing code was large and complex, it was developed predominately in C++ using Visual Studio with some use of python, perl and lua by a team distributed in 4 sites around the world, NZ, two in the USA and one in India. My ability to work in a team or individually, quickly understand complex problems, communicate well and understand 3D maths along with a wide range of experience enabled me to be very productive in this environment. I was involved in technical specification, design, estimation, implementation and maintenance of the software.

Developed network router software. The product started as an internal network for the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research based in Wellington. It was commercialized by Network Dynamics in Christchurch and is now one of Allied Telesis's products. I was involved with the last 2 years in Wellington and 3 years in Christchurch. The group had a number of different owners and moved premises on four occasions while I was with them and my adaptability enabled me to stay productive during these times. I worked in a team of electronic and software engineers that grew from six to fifteen. My role was to implement and maintain protocols such as TCP/IP, Appletalk, DECnet, X.25, ISDN and Frame Relay using embedded C and Motorola 68xxx processors.
