Studying industrial chemistry at university introduced me to the challenges of the mining industry. It was here that my interest in industrial plants first became apparent. The first ten years of my career were spent working at a university in minerals processing research. This experience underpins my professional life. In this environment, a systematic approach to problem solving was honed, along with a keen interest in mineral chemistry plus an understanding of the workings of mineral pulp systems. It was here also that my interest in processing plants was precipitated. Following this time, I worked for a number of mining houses well versed in applied research, which further fuelled my drive for innovation, application and optimisation. For the last sixteen years I have worked for Magotteaux, in a range of capacities, but always developing and delivering processing solutions to our customers. It is my continued learning, which allows me to provide technical support to our customers whom are keen to exploit changes in pulp chemistry to optimise flotation and leaching processes. Further to this, with growing experience, I now have the opportunity to deliver processing solutions and insights into the practical aspects of milling and grinding efficiency - the learning and sharing continues. Arguably, mineral chemistry is right up there with climate change in terms of complexity. It is the challenge to make the seemingly somewhat complex easier to understand, whilst delivering targeted processing solutions to industry, which motivates me today.
