Profile bio

About Grant Stevenson

At age three, my mother took me to get professional photos. She was forced into getting them done by allowing me to take a set of photos with my Tinker Toy “helicopter” creation. Not only did those photos become my mother's favorite, but they helped clearly illuminate my interests. As I grew older, so did my obsession with LEGOs and learning about aircraft at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, OH. I can vividly remember making my parents drive the two hours out to Dayton just so I walk around and get motivation for my next LEGO airplane design. While my planes could not fly on their own, throwing them around gave the same effect, but may have hurt some walls in the process. Throughout my K-12 education I have created countless paper airplanes, written aircraft focused papers and presentations, and designed and built my own wind tunnel to explore and learn about the world of aerospace.Following my passion lead me to enroll at NC State University in aerospace engineering, where the knowledge base and resources have helped my interests flourish. I was finally learning how to make my LEGO aircraft take flight; unfortunately, I learned that it is almost impossible to make a career playing with LEGOs all day. However, I have been able to involve myself in projects and experiences that have challenges and capabilities that far exceed the aerospace capabilities of a children's toy.Throughout the past year I have gained valuable insight into the aerospace field through student research and an internship at NAVAIR. These experiences have helped link what I have been learning throughout my academic career; as well as teaching me the dedication, knowledge and teamwork expectations of a professional engineer. I hope to use these experiences and my education to improve the aerospace capabilities of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Listed skills include Teamwork, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Hardware, Microsoft Office, and 2 others.
