I was approached by Sean Stirton, who at the time was a Unilever procurement manager, along with Seokee Won, a vice president, to start and run an internal graphic design studio based at Unilever Head Office in Durban, South Africa. Initially I was told that there would be a clearly defined growth path within the business - but they actually needed someone to set up and ran the project. I hired the first senior designer, created the vision and values of the studio and named it… Show more I was approached by Sean Stirton, who at the time was a Unilever procurement manager, along with Seokee Won, a vice president, to start and run an internal graphic design studio based at Unilever Head Office in Durban, South Africa. Initially I was told that there would be a clearly defined growth path within the business - but they actually needed someone to set up and ran the project. I hired the first senior designer, created the vision and values of the studio and named it "Kaleidoscope" - defining that we would primarily service the personal care and foods departments, but also provide design when needed to any department in the business, from R&D to finance. By the end of the 3 year period, the team had completed over 1500 projects across the entire business, from 30 min turnarounds to major campaigns for famous brands like Dove, Omo and Robertsons.I created the interfacing protocols with existing business structures and ran them - from client service, senior art direction and graphic design to DTP, copywriting and brand strategy. I also set up, purchased and maintained the required equipment and reported to senior management. Kaleidoscope was referred to in Unilever's monthly "townhall' meetings as a success story in cost-saving and innovation on several occasions. We were often called in for emergencies where big name agencies had not met the brief on high pressure priority jobs, and successfully turned them around in a matter of days.Kaleidoscope was a one-stop shop for strategy, branding, photography and videography, taking briefs from concept through to execution and everything in between. Working under senior art director and designer Ross Gamley, I learnt a great deal working in a corporate environment, meeting international magazine deadlines for Lizzard ads in major publications nationally and internationally.Gained experience in repro as well as clothing, lightbox, billboard, and signage design. I was the principal photographer of products for ads and placements, and designed the 90-page winter 2010 Winter Catalogue in it's entirety.

My first job as a jack of all trades. Design, photography, video production, and print. Notable projects included design for shopping malls in KZN like Musgrave Centre and the Pavilion.

Worked on logo design, flash animation for websites, and cd artwork for bands recorded at this media house.
