With a solid foundation in natural resource management from Garrett College's Natural Resource and Wildlife Technology program, coupled with diverse practical experiences, I am well-prepared to contribute effectively to a habitat management role. My professional journey spans various fields, each contributing unique skills and insights applicable to environmental conservation and habitat restoration efforts.Beginning as a farm laborer, I gained valuable hands-on experience in animal husbandry and equipment operation, developing a keen understanding of agricultural landscapes and rural ecosystems. Transitioning into roles such as an automobile technician and plumbing assistant, I honed my problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, skills essential for implementing and maintaining habitat management plans. My tenure as a retail sales associate at Sherwin-Williams underscored my interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, essential for effective community engagement in conservation initiatives.Currently, as a contract Natural Resources Technician for the Tri-county (Garrett, Allegheny, Washington) management of select preserves, I have been actively involved in critical conservation tasks. These include invasive species control, trail maintenance, preserve border identification, and maintenance, as well as contributing to fire history research through coring trees and collecting wood cookie samples.Previously, I served as a Natural Resources Technician for the Kempton/Thomas Field Study Project, focusing on evaluating biodiversity in swamp ecosystems and feasibility assessments for restoration following acid mine drainage. My responsibilities included conducting plant surveys, measuring water quality, and implementing water flow management strategies such as building and installing water weirs and drainage pipes to mitigate road erosion and prevent pond overflow. With a commitment to environmental stewardship and a proven ability to execute diverse fieldwork tasks, I am eager to apply my skills and contribute to meaningful habitat management and restoration projects aimed at preserving our natural landscapes for future generations.
