I spent countless summers in my elementary years outside Philadelphia, where my grandparents lived, dragging my grandmother onto the hour-long New Jersey Transit ride to Penn Station. From there, we'd cross over to the subway and make our way to Rockefeller Plaza—just so I could stand outside The Today Show studio for hours, hoping for a glimpse of Bryant Gumbel or Katie Couric.Back home, I enlisted my younger brothers and sister to help me produce a weekly broadcast of "KCOX News—live from the Cox family kitchen table." Garrett covered sports, Michael was the cameraman, and Kari our tried-and-true meteorologist. Our viewership never grew beyond mom, dad, and grandparents, but we poured our hearts and souls into it.
