Many years ago I wanted nothing more than to be an attorney specializing in litigation. Through effort and sacrifice I brought that dream within reach, only to realize that was not what I wanted to do with my life. While I loved the law, I saw that the private practice of law was not always associated with making a positive difference. With a lot of good fortune, I found a home working in healthcare in the rural community where I grew up—caring for my family, friends, and neighbors.My experiences have instilled a profound appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that come with rural healthcare delivery, and the reality that every resource counts, every relationship is important, and every patient’s experience matters.Working as a leader in healthcare today is a demanding role. To be successful, each of us must leverage our abilities to find innovative and creative solutions every day. In return, we have the opportunity to feel the satisfaction and pride that can only come from being dedicated to something larger than oneself.
