About Grant Crim

A long time ago, this quote resonated with me, “Your life is your message to the world. Make sure it's inspiring”.I’ve always been driven to apply this quote to my personal life, as well as my education, volunteerism, community engagement, and my professional career. Like everyone else, I’ve had great successes and epic failures, though every experience has given me the opportunity to learn and grow. In fact, I choose to see past failures not as defeats, but as a lessons for my future. As a child, I survived 3 brain tumor recurrences, enduring surgeries, chemotherapy, and the loss of much of my vision. Because of these experiences early in life, I reached a level of maturity and insight into the things that are most important, at a very young age. These challenges strengthened my resolve to overcome obstacles in my own life, as well as helping others to do the same. I firmly believe that we should consistently challenge those around us to embrace their strengths, exceeding their own perceived limitations, while also encouraging them to never be afraid of asking for help or utilizing teamwork to compensate for weaknesses. Being a leader means knowing when you should provide guidance, when you should let others run with their ideas, and when you should roll up your sleeves and hop into the trenches alongside them. Over the last decade, I have had the opportunity to do all three, and am able to intuitively connect with people on a very deep level of empathy, and understanding. Being a leader has meant being able to embrace a constantly changing landscape, and learning to convince people not to fall into the “But we’ve ALWAYS done it this way” mindset. Having the ability to quickly adapt and get that employee or volunteer buy-in, can mean the difference between an organization’s success or failure. Being a leader also means being open to listening to those above you, beside you, and below you on the proverbial “ladder”. When employees and volunteers feel heard, morale is higher, and the team operates more cohesively. A leader should work for the success of their subordinates, while also working toward their organization’s vision for the future. An organization that believes PEOPLE are what matter most in this world, is an organization I want to be a part of. Most importantly, I want to use my skillset to make a positive impact on those around me, and to inspire others with my vision for the future. “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” -Helen Keller
