  • Yrock Enterprise C.I.C
    Managing Director
    Yrock Enterprise C.I.C Dec 2009 - Oct 2012
YRock Enterprise was developed as an opportunity that arose through YRock Limited. We realised that there was a demand for social enterprises to engage with the local community, create a meaningful impact and work within a revenue generating business model. We ran a variety of publicly funded projects and researched the market heavily in order to gauge the potential avenues for the business to generate sustainable revenue. My responsibilities as Company Director included business process improvement, market research, multiple stakeholder management (across public, private and third sector organisations as well as several academic institutions), raising of finance, project management and strategic directions. At the time of operating social enterprise was very new to Scotland, as a small business we found it hard to compete with the larger companies who already had government contracts in place. The business did not have the funds to develop a competitive model and after 2 years assessed we could not continue to justify operating the business. Sometimes you have to know when to move on, and this was one of the most important learning decisions for me with this business.

  • Yrock
    Owner
    Yrock Jun 2007 - Mar 2012
I started YRock after graduating at the age of 21. As a business start-up I was able to raise over £100k in business development support within the first 3 years of trading. Both myself and the company won a variety of enterprise awards in recognition for our innovation and development of the business model.Managing teams on multiple projects for private and public sector contracts was one of my main responsibilities. Building the business operations and using technology to do so was a driving force behind my strategy, I implemented remote servers, a collaborative wiki for the staff to share information and developed a communications strategy that had a digital focus. The company utilised open source content management systems (Joomla, Word Press) in order to maintain our web presence and manage our projects, we also developed the requirements specification and system design for our own bespoke system that integrated business operations with social media, promotion and e-commerce solutions. Marketing was a key part of our business strategy and we used multiple channels to do so. This included web, social media, radio, tv and print. Our analytics focused on social media based on our target market and I developed processes and reports to provide information to various members of the team.During our time trading the company ran over 400 events in venues across the UK, delivered over 10 projects within the public and private sector, developed three strong sub-brands and had 10+ employees with multiple contracts and over 20 volunteers working under my management.
