Working with Special Olympics allows me to build friendships with people with intellectual disabilities and foster these relationships among other students at my university. My duties as president of our college club include organizing practices, events, fundraisers, and tournaments. I work with a team of other students to set our budget, plan our yearly agenda, and train student volunteers. I am also responsible for communications between our club and our athletes' families. Through my three years of working with the organization, I have become a key coordinator between the Orleans-Jefferson Parish chapter and the Louisiana State board of Special Olympics. My most notable achievement includes successfully transitioning to virtual practices during COVID-19. To stay connected with our athletes on a weekly basis, I also serve as an assistant coach for our swim and basketball teams.

At Raw Republic, I strive to provide outstanding customer service and walk customers through the health benefits of the many products on our menu. I have also been trained to work in the kitchen to maintain customer statisfaction and decrease wait times during staffing constraints brought on by COVID-19. Additionally, I have the honor of training new employees on our products, workplace expectations, POS system, and our various delivery applications.

Through my internship with AIDS Alabama, I leveraged my Spanish proficiency to assist Latinx clients. During my time with this nonprofit, I helped organize and promote a community health fair with over 900 participants. I also translated important housing documents for clients, interpreted for medical professionals, and created bilingual materials to better reach and assist underserved populations. My coordinator also taught me a great deal about immigration, HIV and AIDS in the Hispanic community, and advocacy.

Through this two month internship, I devolved community organization programs for youth and adults; facilitated ESL classes for adults and youth as well as basic interview and business courses; translated in a medical clinic and assisted with medical assessments and checkups; and assisted in the construction of three houses for the indigenous population living in the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca.
