Hello.I am a classically-trained creative graphic designer and writer with a 50+ year career in the creative arts. I have lived in the Cotswolds since 1976 and am the head of Mustard Design, an award-winning graphic design consultancy which serves as my creative outlet for a variety of projects. As part of my design work I have been involved in creating headlines, straplines and theme copy for ad campaigns and corporate literature. The brevity of expression and imagination necessary for success in this sphere has helped me to develop a vivid and colourful style which is perfect for creative writing. I have always been an avid reader of all genres but my true love is mid-century modern British and American literature from writers such as Dylan Thomas, Harper Lee, HE Bates, Laurie Lee, JD Salinger, John Steinbeck, Jack Kerouac, PG Wodehouse and Stella Gibbons to name but a few. I describe my latest book “The Sickletree Hours” as the place where Rosie Burdock drinks cider with Dylan Thomas in the snug of the Sailor’s Arms beneath Milk Wood or where Pop Larkin finds something nasty in the woodshed at Cold Comfort Farm. This of course is not to assume that I regard myself as any where the equal of these great writers but simply to indicate influences and style and to pay homage to their unique talents.
