Summary of ExperienceProfessional Electrical Engineer with twenty+ years post-graduation experience of which 13+ years were obtained in Africa and the last 10 years in Perth WA. Experience covers a wide range of skills, including engineering design in several different disciplines, commissioning, product support, installation, maintenance, as well as conducting training and department management.Considerable experience in the design of PLC and SCADA based control systems in the mining industry, as well as communication design in Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet networks in a variety of industries. Implementation and fault-finding of control systems, copper and wireless based Ethernet networks, as well as the design and maintenance of microprocessor-based control systems for a wide range of applications. This is complimented by extensive experience in repair, maintenance and installations of various systems and sub systems. The above experience culminated in a number of BHP appointments, including one which involved developing and conducting site specific training courses for a variety of products. Extensive training conducted in a number of GE-Intelligent Platforms’ leading software packages, Proficy Machine Edition, Cimplicity and Historian and the associated GE hardware used in the Automation Industry. A more recent appointment was with the BHP VTLS project. Responsibilities included testing and proofing sequences in this control system, requiring extensive Function Block coding using RSLogix 5000 via FTAC. The past 6 weeks have been dedicated to an Alarm Rationalisation team, investigating the source of high alarm counts, proposing improved logic to reduce these counts, as well as the implementation of this logic.Current interest is a personal project, having developed a PI based monitoring system to extract CAN bus data from special vehicles. All data is centralised in a web based cloud system.
