After completing a year of college at West Virginia University, I joined the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout. I tested 93 on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), which gave me the option to pick almost any job in the Army. In January of 2020, I was honorably discharged. My time in the military taught me many skills, but the mindset it provided me with was by far the most valuable thing I gained from the experience. I started self-teaching recruitment techniques because the company that I was working for had a problem keeping a consistent staff due to COVID.I studied interviewing skills, resume analyzing, job promotion and sales tactics for my new role. I enjoyed the conversations I had, and the fact that I was providing opportunities for people who needed it. I recruited for several industries: door-to-door sales (the most challenging), food service (the most rewarding), and supply chain logistics (the best learning experience).In 2023, I have realized that while I enjoyed the experience of recruiting, I strongly believe that cybersecurity would be the perfect place to challenge myself and consistently learn new things and grow within the industry. I am currently enrolled at Fullstack Academy and plan on completing my CySA+ certification after graduation.
