• Work fulltime in the Senate Commerce Committee; Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries, and Climate Change, under the leadership of Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington State.• Help deliver the subcommittee’s legislative agenda, with a focus on ocean and climate policy issues, including sustainable fisheries management, climate science/modeling, marine mammal conservation, weather forecasting, coral reef conservation, ocean acidification mitigation, Arctic policy, oil spill prevention and response, renewable energy, and ocean supply chain efficiency. • Conduct policy analysis, draft legislation, and conduct oversight investigations related to the activities of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Coast Guard, the Maritime Administration, and the Marine Mammal Commission. • Prepare hearing materials, including legislative memos, congressional reports, press statements, and talking points for the chair of both the full committee (Cantwell) and the subcommittee (Baldwin).• Interface with federal, state, embassy, nonprofit, tribal, and private-sector stakeholders to find solutions to legislative issues.• Lead the appropriations process for NOAA and Coast Guard by compiling appropriations requests from federal and non-federal stakeholders, gathering signatures, and drafting appropriations letters on behalf of Chair Senator Cantwell of Washington.

Serve as the primary Environmental Scientist for JMT's Tampa, Florida office, partnering with other JMT scientists, engineers, and university/agency partners to deliver JMT's natural and cultural resource agenda, with a focus on coastal resource conservation. Responsibilities include conducting various environmental investigations, performing wetland impact analyses, performing lab work (biomass processing), collecting and analyzing geospatial data, and supporting ecological restoration projects in marine and estuarine environments. Notable projects include estuarine biological monitoring (fish, macroinvertebrates, zooplankton), freshwater regime shift monitoring, living shoreline design and planning, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) monitoring, coastal marsh restoration, and water quality monitoring.

Intensive focus on coastal processes and hydrodynamic modeling. Worked full-time in USF's Coastal Research Laboratory on a variety of coastal research projects, including estuarine circulation modeling, storm impact research, beach morphology monitoring, sea turtle conservation, and sea grass restoration.

Responsible for evaluating the environmental impacts of state and federally funded transportation projects and finding solutions to help minimize ecological risks and protect Georgia's natural biodiversity. Conducted stream/wetland delineations, habitat assessments and protected species surveys to map out a site's ecologically critical resources for regulatory protection with respect to the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Magnuson Steven Act and the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act among others. Composed and reviewed environmental assessment of effects reports, endangered species survey reports, buffer variance applications, pre-construction notifications and special provisions that restrict construction activities as to protect ecological resources. Created project maps and survey boundaries in ArcGIS, then collected geospatial field data such as stream/wetland delineation lines, bat roosting trees and gopher tortoise burrows using Trimble units. Assisted in saltmarsh restoration research project involving field sampling and lab-analysis of coastal sediments and development of construction standards to restore saltmarsh to preconstruction conditions.

Served as the principal research fellow on the Advance Commercial Buildings Initiative. Developed research directives to reduce resource consumption in commercial buildings under 50,000 square feet and expand energy efficiency into the higher education sector. Utilized existing programs such as the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge, Grants to Green, and EarthCraft Light Commercial to create tool-kits designed to enable building owners to identify and curtail energy consumption drivers.

Assisted the Development and Communications Team, Commercial Sustainability Team, and Residential Sustainability Team with research and technical writing. Contributed to several published journal articles and full length literature reviews. Led public tours of Southface's LEED platinum building.
