Managing Director & Strategist
CurrentI manage a small office with a good team supporting the testing of ETS's TOEIC English tests in Australia, NZ and Fiji. My role is to continually improve our approach to better meet international student certification needs, upgrade invigilator training, support English schools and generally find new ways of serving customers.
Principal Consultant
Initial responsibility was IT based. This broadly increased from mid-2012 to use my psychology experience for an ASEAN project - my task was to integrate a well respected psychological test (with a new ASEAN report I was designing) into the current user journey (job-seekers), from testing to job application. The user focus was on job seekers, with HR secondary, analysing all stakeholder needs as part of the report design. I wireframed our initial personality report as an "International Communication" report (tied to our English proficiency report), then developed content for it and made a hifi prototype (with a graphic designer). A second more substantial report was also well received and tied to a novel use of a person-job match configuration process that allowed it to make interpretation simpler but also less human-error prone, which we began testing. The concept, designs and prototypes were appealing beyond ASEAN, and were taken on by ETS Global.
Ux Designer Freelance
2 UX projects, 1 UX client project, 3 UX course projects, 1 SD course project and 1 personal UX course project. UX intensive course with Academy XI, followed by a part time SD course. Real clients with current needs, we formed 4 person teams under UX Lead Robert Williams, and an 8 person team for our SD client. Prior to this I worked on 2 projects, one described under "Principal consultant", the other 4 years later researching business needs and journeys of HR companies on a separate product to test and manage applicant abilities. In both cases I used wireframes & developed low-fi prototypes. I'm currently working on the UX of a phone app for personal security. In the courses I was involved in all aspects with a strength in stakeholder meetings, business needs and user interviews (due to my experience), as well as testing assumptions, and usability testing. We collaborated on surveys, affinity mapping and research analysis. Our ideation was sometimes team based and sometimes individual, using wireframes to communicate individual and group concepts and choose what we then prototyped. I prototyped in 2 of the 3 projects (AdobeXD and Balsamiq), and usability tested users on all prototypes.
Ict Consultant
My role was to maintain and expand the IT system, and I met regularly with head and extended staff to understand their roles, train them in tech, and find new technology solutions to help them do what they did better (1-2 days / week)This began many years ago when I volunteered as a Telephone Counsellor, then Face-to-Face counsellor at Lifeline, and finally to me helping them support their IT infrastructure (as an extension to my regular external IT work).
Facilitator (Casual)
Casual work facilitating corporate groups in group dynamic games to develop soft team skills. Well developed and challenging metaphoric activities. Sabre is a company committed to using current theory and practice to develop human resources - they had a Psych background to their events that fit well with my philosophy (and good people!) (1-2 days / week)
Counsellor (2-3 Days/Week)
I counselled in 3 contexts.1) Domestic Violence with Lifeline Australia (The Australian Telephone Counselling and Referral Service for victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault) (1-2 days / week)2) NLP modelling, motivational interviewing, behaviour coaching & change, hypnotherapy - privately (0.5 to 1 day / week)3) Personal Counselling with Lifeline Northern Beaches (0.5 days/week volunteer)
It Consultant (Business & User/Human Centred)
My company was a vehicle to allow me to work with multiple clients (some listed separately above). This included IT consulting & websites, designing and implementing new systems, HR & team development, & counselling work. Earlier IT work included designing groupware data and interfaces (Lotus Notes, MS Exchange), websites, system evaluations, & troubleshooting.
Senior Business Analyst
Supporting the commercial division (ABC Enterprises) in their business and user requirements. This included definitions for residuals, tenders for royalty management, continual improvements to reporting systems, and project management of new system rollouts to ABC Shops nationwide
Product Support
This involved supporting SHL's testing systems in the US. Customising client setups, translating tests, building local norms, and supporting low level tech. I also converted pen-and-paper tests to computer based equivalents, introduced some simple customer management systems (Lotus Notes), and represented SHL at trade shows.
It Support
Part-time work while studying at UNSW. Installing SHL Software and upgrades, minor localisation of product, general technology support.
