In my previous role, I worked as part of a team that ensured the security assurance and compliance of Element Manager Servers. These element managers can be either virtual or physical, and are vital to BT and Openreach’s public and private networks. My responsibilities included:• Using security scanning software to ensure that the EMS’s are compliant with both internal and external security policies. This includes policies focused on OS’s such as Linux and Windows.• Create documentation reviewing the results of the testing, making sure they can be presented in a clear and concise manner.• Liaise with customers and vendors to discuss any non-compliances or problems and how to rectify them, ensuring that security is built in by design• Assist with vulnerability management including patching to ensure any vulnerabilities are mitigated and thus limiting the attack surface.• Take part in any Technical Working Party/Security working party calls, to discuss and review ongoing issues and requirements surrounding the platforms we support.• Liaise with network designers to ensure security is built into any new networks being developed and to confirm that any security tools and policies are included in the design.• Use internal compliance tracking tools to monitor the status of platforms and any ongoing non-compliances, making sure there is a road map to rectify these issues.

In my previous role I worked as a Technical Support Analyst working on the Scottish Water contract. My role was to help install, monitor, maintain and support the Cisco infrastructure network on the Scottish Water estate. My day-to-day tasks included;• Installing and configuring infrastructure components such as routers, L2/L3 switches, and wireless access points. Including installation in offices and data centres.• Installing new internal wiring and patching in data cabinets and data centres. • Trouble shooting and resolving incidents raised via the customer helpdesk within agreed SLA’s. This trouble shooting involved network monitoring tools such as Castlerock SNMP and Wireshark.• Supporting large projects and providing technical support to project managers• Assisting the Firewall team to design and configure firewall rules to implement the required network connectivity.• Assisting the design team to ensure secure design of the infrastructure network.To carry out my role, I was in constant contact with both customers and BT team members such as technical designers and project managers. During my time working on this contract, I developed a host of new skills and built a great working relationship with both the customer and colleagues that I worked alongside.

In my role as a Secure Systems Specialist, I worked on the DFTS contract with the MoD. In this job role I was involved with the installation, maintenance and repair of secure data and voice systems for the Ministry of Defense. This involved working on both large and small sites across the whole of the UK. To allow me to work on this contract I had to gain DV Strap security clearance.
