About Greg Austin

DR GREG AUSTIN is a research leader with rich experience in the roles of Russia and China in international affairs. His more recent publications include:"Impact of the Russia–Ukraine War on National Cyber Planning: A Survey of Ten Countries" (IISS 2023, co-authored) "Great Power Offensive Cyber Operations" (IISS, 2022, co-authored)"Assessing Military Cyber Maturity" (IISS, 2022, co-authored)BOOK: "Cybersecurity in China: The Next Wave" (Springer 2018)BOOK: "Cyber Policy in China" (Polity 2014). Greg has led work on several edited volumes: BOOK: "Cyber Capabilities and National Power" (IISS 2021, co-edited)BOOK: "National Cyber Emergencies: The Return to Civil Defence" (Routledge 2020) and "Cyber Security Education: Principles and Policies" (Routledge 2020). He is co-founder of the Social Cyber Institute.He has a 40-year career in international security affairs, including consultancy research, with specialization in cyber security, counter-terrorism, China and Russia. He writes for globally prominent risk advisory firms and has led consultancy teams for the UK and Australian governments in international security policy.He has recently focused on cyber policy and political economy of the information age. He has worked with leaders in government and business at high levels, and diplomats, in many countries (China, Russia, UK, USA, France, Germany) and international organisations (UN, NATO, OSCE, OIC, SCO, APEC and ASEAN), . He is concurrently an Adjunct Professor at the Australia China Relations Institute and co-leads business development of the Social Cyber Group. He has held academic appointments at the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales Canberra, King's College London (SVF) and the Centre for International Conflict Studies at Bradford.
