After a period doing various Apple tech support locally, a chance conversation with a friend about his need to replace a multi-terminal POS system in his very busy pub led me to bring up some limited experience I had with iPad based tills. This focussed me on doing some more research and made me realise what an awesome and cost efficient alternative to traditional touchscreen systems these were, particularly when paired with effective use of cloud technology for data storage and reporting.. If ever there was a great use for the low cost, reliability, speed and ease of use of the iPad, it strikes me that it's POS systems. I am now a proud partner for Vend (the leading iPad based POS system) as well as Timely (a really innovative appointment management package), Deputy (visionary scheduling and timecard software) and Shopify (the leading eCommerce platform).This is really nascent tech, but tills are ripe for being dragged into the 21st century and I have no doubt that in a few years an iPad will be all you see on most retail and hospitality counters along with functions like mobile payments and ordering etc, etc. I'm really excited to be in at the ground floor for what looks to be a pretty exciting ride. Sadly my experience of working for a bank who were no strangers to fines for compliance immediately after the Mortgage Market Review meant that I quickly realised that the position was not for me. Because of apparently widespread confusion as to what good compliance looked like and a business quality department who had begun to rule by fear, I spent more time checking and repairing files than helping customers.
