I have worked for Tesco for 14 years. I was appointed the role of Community Champion on the 22nd November 2010. A role with many challenges , but so rewarding. I help Schools, Groups, and clubs reach their goal of raising funds by using Tesco as a springboard. When we opened in a small village we had opposition. I had to show that Tesco as a company was able to help local Community and even benefit by helping communities come together . I have now over the years become a local celebrity, achieving 2 Queens Award for Voluntary Service ( equivalent to MBE )Also recognised by the local Council and Rotary Club for my work in the Community. I never say No to anybody as Tesco helps me to help others, from School visits to talks for Charities, the work I do is so varied . Even being on local Radio and on TV. Also I have been involved with a Guiness book of records achievement. I am now currently a lead Champion for my Group and have trained plenty of new champions in this role. I lead a Community Group in the neighbouring village, this involves, meeting up with volunteers, Communicating with local Authorities, Risk assessments and planning. We tackle restoration of pathways, litterpicks , planting trees and wild flowers , managing nature reserves and painting canal locks . I don't think I could have such a rewarding employment.
