Optical Engineer
Picometrix
I’m the primary optical engineer in the high-speed optical receiver (HSOR) R&D group. My responsibilities include the development of the optical front-end for our receivers as well as technical manufacturing support. I have also managed multiple projects from concept to production, varying from incremental improvements to new product releases. My day to day tasks include:*Project Management - Schedule, track progress, and hold short weekly meetings with the team to go over tasks.*New Component Evaluation - Design experiment, analyze results, and generate a report for various new optical components, ranging from optical connectors to photonic integrated circuits.*New Product Design – Work independently and in groups to create possible designs for future high-speed optical receivers.*Prototyping – Design and assemble engineering fixturing that I utilize to make proof of concepts and first articles of a new design.*Engineering Validation - Create Tests to validate the performance and reliability of a design.*Production Fixturing and Test System design – Work with mechanical and software engineers to design the fixtures and software that will be used in production.*Transfer to Production – Work with quality department to create all the required documentation for manufacturing and assist with training.*Manufacturing Supports - Assist manufacturing engineers and technicians to solve problems that may arise.I have experience with:Optical circuits (PLCs and PICs), micro-optic components, opto-electronic hybrid assembly, optical UV adhesives, fiber alignment, fiber fusion-splicing, fiber connector termination, PM fiber, glass hermetic seals on fiber, photodetectors, optical and RF spectrum analyzers, and general optical and RF lab equipment and components.
