About Greg Bruno
My career has centered around designing, developing, and maintaining software that helps end-users and companies build scalable, parallel systems. I’ve worked on code bases that manage parallel databases, high-performance computing systems, scalable storage systems, and on-prem cloud computing platforms. At the San Diego Supercomputer Center, I was the co-founder of an open-source project called The Rocks Cluster Distribution, which is a complete Linux-based distribution that makes it easy for users to build their own high-performance computing systems (CPU and GPU) with commodity hardware. Several of the systems we built at SDSC landed on the Top500 List -- a list of the top high-performance computing systems in the world. And, through the Rocks project, I've also done some esoteric things like organizing a series of in-person conferences to help cultivate the user community that grew up around the software (one of the conferences was in Singapore!), as well as producing a podcast to talk about the software project.I also co-founded a startup (StackIQ) that was the commercial entity associated with the Rocks Cluster Distribution. After landing several Fortune 500 companies as customers, Teradata recognized StackIQ's value and acquired the company where the core software was used to build world's largest databases. To keep things interesting, I've recently dove into a whole new computing genre -- I've learned Typescript and React to create my first Expo-based phone app. Way out of my comfort zone -- and fun!!
Listed skills include Cloud Computing, Cluster, Distributed Systems, Open Source, and 19 others.
