About Greg Cenker

I'm very honored to be the chosen recipient for the Measurement Science Conference 2021 Woodington Award - In my humble opinion, the older I become, the more I've yet to learn...https://msc-conf.com/woodington-award/Developed lean processes designed to decrease throughput time, generate automatic actions, automated several process, and provided live, interactive dashboards.Developed an experimental successive approximation Interval Analysis algorithm. This method fits a curve between an estimated beginning-of-period reliability (BOPR) based on Probability False Accept risk and the average observed end-of-period reliability (EOPR) using the average resubmission time. The algorithm is designed to minimize risk & uncertainty while simultaneously maintaining low excessive maintenance costs.Designed real-time uncertainty budgets on a systematic level. This enables accurate risk assessment on instruments returning for certification. This is a “top-down” system which is virtually self-maintaining.Improved NIST Monograph 175 Inverse calculations for achieving thermodynamic values based on voltage. This algorithm utilizes a Newton-Raphson iterative technique thus preserving the original integrity of the Monograph 175 inverse equations for thermodynamics.Chaired the NCSLI Recommended Practices Committee, RP-18, and co-authored the document Estimation and Evaluation of Measurement Decision Risk. This was a two year commitment outlining methodology on how to establish, manage and maintain measurement decision risk. Additional research and preliminary testing is being evaluated for various reliability models and the impact on calibration intervals, reliability targets and maintaining minimum Probability of False Acceptance (PFA) risk. This tie-in maximizes calibration intervals while meeting reliability targets and minimizing overhead costs.Specialties:Reliability EngineeringRisk & Uncertainty AnalysisMetrology EngineeringLaboratory Development & ManagementQuality EngineeringStatistical AnalysisLaboratory Accreditation (A2LA & NVLAP)Independent Consulting

Senior Metrologist And Calibrations.Com Product Manager

Current

United States

I'm please to announce I've taken on a new role at IndySoft as the Calibrations.com Product Manager. This is such an exciting adventure as the new software and services will rapidly become a state of the art product serving the metrology community across all sectors.

Dec 2020 - Present

Metrology Engineering Manager

Linthicum, Md

Responsible for managing the SureCAL Product Engineering Team, Metrology Engineers, provide Measurement Uncertainty Analysis, provide uncertainty training and measurement consulting to Northrop Grumman employees and customers (domestic and internationally).

Jun 2017 - Dec 2020

Sr. Metrology Engineer

Norco, Ca

Employed by American Technical Services (ATS). Worked along side the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Corona, CA. Responsibilities included determining optimal calibration intervals, ensuring the fleet maintains a high readiness reliability factor, and provided insight into their automated software systems, Metbench.

Jan 2015 - May 2017

Metrology Manager

Hawthorne

Metrology Manager at SpaceX. Responsible for developing a Metrology Laboratory, providing Measurement Assurance, and be on the cutting edge of technology. I'm very excited to be a part of such a great company which pushes boundaries and has a far reaching vision for the future. And the rockets, did I mention they make rockets?Through my tenure I’ve made some positive changes:Automated thread plug measurement system (Quest Metrology Thread-View II) – decreased calibration time while taking all relevant data automatically while reducing throughput time.Automated Shock/Vibration System (The Modal Shop) – increased capabilitiesAutomated Pressure System (Fluke) - increased capabilities to 15,000 PSI (pneumatic)Barcode check-in/check-out system enabling self-check-in and expedited check-out (Embedded and programmed within IndySoft GageInsite) – streamlined process. This process enabled customers to logon to our metrology database, as a restricted user, scan a barcode to place the system into receiving mode, scan all equipment due for calibration, scan their badge (identifies individual dropping off equipment), issues an email receipt which is sent to the equipment owner, then completes the check-in process. The same process, in reverse, allows for rapid check-out as well.Installed a blanket PO system – consolidating 40+ vendors to a single source – streamlined processBrought the tool inventory database under control while providing live metrics – enabling the close out of a massive Corrective Action Request (CAR) initiated during an audit.Installed interactive, live dashboards enabling shop managers to be pro-active regarding equipment due for calibration and other pertinent metrics. This, coupled with the tool database fully reconciled, enabled a “late for calibration” decrease from ~18% to less than ~0.02% of total inventory

Dec 2013 - Dec 2014

Reliability Engineer

Santa Ana, Ca

Developed algorithms to better forecast Grid Reliability Metrics (SAIDI/SAIFI) utilizing Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Averages (ARIMA). This enables extremely accurate, short term, reliability prediction functionality to within < 1.8% of the true value.Previously involved in finding more efficient ways to report our reliability metrics utilizing Dashboards. Each month brought a plethora of reliability data from System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), Worst Performing Circuit Reports (WCR), outages due to specific categories, etc. The laborious time devoted to monthly reporting metrics is far too time consuming and prone to human error due to the many manual processes involved.I believed a more efficient approach would entail installing intelligence within the confines of our data warehouse using a comprehensive yet relatively simplistic user interface. This way, our senior leaders, planners, field engineers, and other relevant business units can have all of our reliability metrics at their fingertips with a few clicks of a mouse. This was something I've never attempted in the past but looked forward to the challenges and rewards this projects brings.Previously involved in the Storm Intensity working group as well; we were tasked to define and calculate the level of storm severity in order better gauge our response to natural disasters. This project had a great many facets, from meteorology forecasting, predictive damage assessment, and predictive resource allocations based on prior history. As more data became available, a constant re-calibration of the models continued.

May 2011 - Dec 2013

Metrology Engineer

Primary Metrology Engineer responsible for maintaining our NVLAP Accreditation, managing our reference standards under strict SPC, develop algorithms to automate our recall system while minimizing redundant calibrations yet still maintaining end of period required reliability. A lot of time is devoted to incorporating measurement decision risk into every aspect of our lab while making it simple and transparent to our metrologists.Majority of time devoted to Risk Assessment, Engineering, QA and managerial duties. Engineering activities include Risk and Interval analysis for both SONGS and our Metrology lab, SPC development, implementation/maintenance, uncertainty analysis, measurement assurance, technical writing and/or review, process improvement, applications engineering, software development, apparatus construction and/or modification, customer technical support and training; engineering activity involvement in the AC/DC, resistance, time/frequency and temperature disciplines. Extremely strong analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills Expert knowledge in the following software packages (not limited to): @Risk, Statistica, Excel, MathCad, TableCurve, Word, Power Point Programming skills in Delphi , Visual Basic, Basic and METCAL Comprehensive understanding of ISO 17025, ISO 9000 series, and ANSI/NCSL Z-540 Standards. Over ten years cumulative experience in the temperature discipline with emphasis on fixed-point calibrations, process improvements, algorithm/software development, and implementing various statistical processes.
