Solazyme-TerraVia is an innovative and technology driven company which creates new, sustainable and high-performance products from microalgae. Products include nutritional ingredients, industrial oils, personal care, cosmetics and renewable fuels. My responsibilities include leading the domestic manufacture of finished goods within the realm of operations and supply chain activities of production planning, logistics, inventory, warehousing and customer service management. Key collaborative projects include global logistics planning, contract services and manufacturing support at Solazyme Bunge Oils in Brazil. Contributions include oversight and planning of various product improvement projects at Solazyme in identifying best technology and CMOs for AlgaVia powders production and leading CMO supply chain activities within Consumer Oils.

Key responsibilities including oversight of construction, start-up, and operation of multiple plants, including BN National Trail Biodiesel facility in Newton, Illinois and BN Biofuels in Port of Palm, Florida. BN National Trail Biodiesel is a state of the art biodiesel production facility that had a production nameplate capacity of 50 million gallons per year of B100 biodiesel. BN Biofuels focused on blending of biodiesel with petro diesel, then on production of biodiesel and oleochemicals, while also housing R&D facilities. These facilities made use of a most efficient and patented reaction technology and managerial expertise, which will be a model for future biodiesel and biochemical production in the United States. Other key duties revolve around technology transfer.

Corporate position responsible for key aspects of maintaining Martek’s supply chain while integrating into DSM structure, with significant emphasis on sourcing integration, contingency and asset planning, technology transfer of downstream processing operations, and assistance with new technology evaluations for future DSM nutritional oils refinery site.

Corporate position responsible for all supply chain functions at two manufacturing locations (Kentucky and South Carolina) and globally at third party manufacturers in ensuring capacity, management of inventory, driving of cost reductions in purchased manufacturing goods and services, while leading strategic supply chain initiatives related to long-term capacity planning and procurement. Oversaw and led four functional areas in this department which included Strategic Materials/Planning/Logistics, Strategic Procurement, Third Party Manufacturing, and Third Party Project Engineering

As VP of Manufacturing/Site Manager, led Winchester site of 225 employees in all capacities, focusing on all Manufacturing processes (Fermentation, Recovery, Extraction, RBWD), Packaging & Warehousing, Materials & Logistics, Engineering, Maintenance, General administration (HR, Accounting) and indirect oversight of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, EHS, and Process Development initiatives. In addition, functioned in dual role as Global Third Party Manufacturing Leader which involved traveling extensively world-wide in setting up contract agreements, performance criteria monitoring and testing, and overseeing production and report summaries for Martek products including microencapsulated powders, soft gel capsules, high purity oils, and animal feeds. Other duties applied in third party tolling were Quality auditing/control (documentation review, approvals), project management, technology transfer, and product development trials.

Oversaw manufacturing operations of Winchester site which included Fermentation (small and large-scale), Recovery (centrifugation and spray drying), Solvent Extraction, and Refinery (RBWD). Supervised departmental managers and operation engineers.
