Reporting to the CIO, I am responsible for establishing and executing the vision for the delivery of information and analytics solutions to HRM’s key stakeholders, including managers, staff and ultimately HRM citizens.Overall management responsibility for the architecture, design, delivery and supportof operational reports, business intelligence applications and supporting infrastructure (i.e., data,metadata, data integration, etc.) at HRM. This position also has the operational responsibility for data governance at HRM. In this role, I am responsible for efforts to assure quality of HRM’s key data assets and that they are appropriately defined, documented, and managed in accordance with established standards and policies. In consultation with the enterprise data architect, I am responsible for defining and communicating data governance goals, standards, policies and procedures.In conjunction with ICT business relationship managers, I am a primary point of contact between the BIDS team and HRM business units and ultimately external stakeholders (e.g., HRM citizens) as it pertains to BI and data services. I have the mandate to provide BI and data governance education and to ensure that changing/evolving information needs and priorities of stakeholders are understood thus ensuring alignment between their needs and BIDS team efforts. Further, I am a change agent with a mandate to position BI and evolve data driven decision making at HRM.

I report directly to the Director, Health Information Management and Reporting, Business Intelligence, Analytics and Privacy. I oversee data and information access management, information analysis and reporting database administration. Responsibilities include the development, implementation and management of strategic and operational plans related to health system data acquisition; database management and security; and provincial data quality and standards development for the Nova Scotia health system. I ensure that quality data and information are readily available to inform health system decision making and planning both from a clinical and administrative perspective, and that the data used for decision making are accurate, comparable, timely and useful. I develop, implement, and manage a series of agreements with Program areas, within Department of Health and Wellness, the nine District Health Authorities, and the IWK Health Centre, and manages contracts with a number of software vendors.

As a member of the Business Solutions; team lead responsible for the deployment of business intelligence solutions that support the applications of the Department. Committed to a client-focused strategy ensuring end-users have the tools to access their operational data as well as make informed and predictive business decisions.Participated in all phases of implementation of the data warehouse roadmap. Designed and created Framework and Data Warehouse models, data marts, and data stores, while ensuring high levels of data availability. Participated in data migration, metadata creation and data validation. Made presentations to the business; and communicated (verbally and in writing) team and project issues to appropriate direct reports and management. Presented findings, recommendations, and specifications both verbally and in writing. Responsibilities included: developing project plans; assignment of tasks and responsibilities; status reporting; problem recognition and resolution; monitoring and maintaining operational and project schedules; resource planning; staff development; training and mentoring; and preparing business cases.
