Working with the Manager of Religious Education, I revised a new programme for use in Irish schools, researched needs and strategic directions for adult education, consulted with educational partners including advising on media strategy, deputised for manager in meeting with NCCA, and developed classroom resources for secondary education in both Irish jurisdictions.As an editor in the General Publications department, I proofread and copy-edited a range of books, helping authors realise their visions, and copyedited and proofread several projects for Church agencies. In this role I liaised with production, design, and publicity staff, and built relationships with writers. Along with meeting prospective authors and working with authors to develop a proposed library of Irish classics, I compiled and edited in my own name 'Small Things and Silence: The Gentle Way of Pope John Paul I'.

Deputised for managing editor, including through sabbatical period, to produce weekly newspaper and maintain active social media channels and news website while working to tight deadlines. Managed busy office and led a team of four to six editorial and design staff, planning issues, commissioning content, sourcing material, and liaising with independent contributors. Oversaw copy-editing, proofreading, and newspaper production, including when beginning relationship with new printing company.Edited multiple themed issues, planning the 'Welcome Pope Francis' issue that won the ‘Best Special Supplement’ category in the US-based Catholic Media Association’s Catholic Press Awards, and writing and commissioning all content for the 'A Saint for Our Times - John Henry Newman' issue that received an honourable mention. Edited one of the three issues that earned the Irish Catholic an honourable mention as the CPA 'Best Newspaper' category.Wrote news, review, analysis, and feature pieces for weekly newspaper and daily website, receiving second-place CPA awards for investigative news writing and in-depth news reporting, third-place CPA awards for best coverage of papal trips and best personality profile, and an honourable mention for best analysis/background writing.Filmed and edited videos for news website and social media channels.Collaborated closely with marketing and circulation staff to promote themed issues and to plan and manage conferences, public talks, and book launches. Edited special themed issues including one to mark the beatification of the Salvadoran martyr Oscar Romero, and project-managed one on Ireland’s 1916 Rising, researching archive documents, liaising with design, other editorial, and marketing staff, resulting in critical acclaim and a 10% boost in sales.Personal highlights of this period included working with charities to highlight Ireland's growing homelessness crisis, interviewing inspirational figures such as Bro. Kevin Crowley and missionaries who lived through the worst of the Salvadoran civil war, dusting off my financial analysis skills to examine and explain company accounts, and describing my reluctant pilgrimage experience at Lough Derg.

From January to August 2013, I was an international editorial board member and freelance contributor to the world’s widest-reaching Catholic news service, becoming UK & Ireland correspondent between July and December 2014. In these capacities I supplied international news content and interviewed a wide range of figures in the Catholic and broader religious worlds of Britain and Ireland, working to offer a Catholic 'lens' on news stories ranging from Scottish independence and science-fiction TV shows to the ethics of fighting terrorism and the plight of migrants striving to cross the Mediterranean. These roles also introduced me to the challenges of communicating religious-oriented news in a fragmented and fragmenting information landscape, and to strategic approaches to addressing these challenges. I also took the opportunity to shape the journal from my May-to-June Camino across Spain into a finished and reflective series of travel articles.
