Deputised for managing editor, including through sabbatical period, to produce weekly newspaper and maintain active social media channels and news website while working to tight deadlines. Managed busy office and led a team of four to six editorial and design staff, planning issues, commissioning content, sourcing material, and liaising with independent contributors. Oversaw copy-editing, proofreading, and newspaper production, including when beginning relationship with new printing company.Edited multiple themed issues, planning the 'Welcome Pope Francis' issue that won the ‘Best Special Supplement’ category in the US-based Catholic Media Association’s Catholic Press Awards, and writing and commissioning all content for the 'A Saint for Our Times - John Henry Newman' issue that received an honourable mention. Edited one of the three issues that earned the Irish Catholic an honourable mention as the CPA 'Best Newspaper' category.Wrote news, review, analysis, and feature pieces for weekly newspaper and daily website, receiving second-place CPA awards for investigative news writing and in-depth news reporting, third-place CPA awards for best coverage of papal trips and best personality profile, and an honourable mention for best analysis/background writing.Filmed and edited videos for news website and social media channels.Collaborated closely with marketing and circulation staff to promote themed issues and to plan and manage conferences, public talks, and book launches. Promoted newspaper in radio and online interviews, explaining and clarifying Church-related stories for general audiences.Mentored and supported multimedia staff and student interns, developing talents through delegation and careful guidance.Personal highlights included covering the World Meeting of Families, interviewing the artist PJ Lynch and writer Frank Cottrell Boyce, and working with Prof. Eamonn Conway on a study guide to 'Gaudete et Exsultate', Pope Francis's letter on holiness.
