Directed the efficient design, fabrication, installation and operation of IMA Edwards' pharmaceutical-grade lyophilizer (freeze dryer) systems.Responsibilities and achievements include:- Creation, development, review & approval of process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and fabrication drawings.- Directing the design, fabrication and installation of drying chambers, condenser vessels, product shelf stacks, support frames, clean-in-place (CIP) systems, sterilize-in-place (SIP) systems, refrigeration systems, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems.- Specification of engineered equipment and devices including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pneumatic & hydraulic cylinders, valves, and flow, level, pressure, and temperature devices.- Developing engineering tools to improve performance of equipment and systems.- Directing and supporting design and production staff.- Providing technical support to customer service and sales staff.

Maintained responsibility for the efficient design, manufacture and operation of shell and tube heat exchangers, associated piping and accessories. Utilized extensive knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes, packaging concepts, compression theory and heat transfer analysis methods.Created, developed and maintained analysis records for ASME Section VIII, Division I, pressure vessels.Developed extensive library of computer design tools and Excel spreadsheet programs to automate product analysis and development. Effected significant cost savings by minimizing time required to engineer design modifications.Successfully integrated heat exchangers, associated piping and components onto various compressor package design layouts.

Maintained responsibility for the efficient selection, requisition and operation of mechanical equipment used in Praxair's multi-million dollar industrial gas plants. Equipment scope included various types of compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, cryogenic storage tanks, purification/adsorption beds, chillers and refrigeration units, pressure vessels, vaporizers, noise silencers, filters, etc.Evaluated, selected and requisitioned mechanical equipment based on performance and safety requirements as well as reliability and economic considerations.Created written standards for design and performance requirements of equipment and systems.Developed and approved drawings for equipment, process/instrumentation and plant construction.Inspected equipment to ensure adherence to job specifications.Performed system pressure drop calculations and sized/selected process piping.Analyzed stresses in cryogenic and high temperature piping to determine the need for pipe supports and flexible pipe elements; i.e., flex-hoses, expansion joints.Effectively coordinated work with other product line and project team members to ensure proper integration of equipment and design details into overall plant design.

Manufactured (and supervised manufacture of) diaphragm type valves (produced in a variety of sizes, body materials, linings and throttling characteristics) for use in flow control. Headed department for production of valve diaphragms.
